Description
Under the direction of the assigned manager, perform a full range of custodial duties related to the care, maintenance and cleaning of assigned buildings and facilities; report unsatisfactory or dangerous conditions to higher level staff and to perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Responsibilities and Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform a variety of custodial duties related to the care, maintenance and cleaning of college buildings and facilities.
Knowledge of:
- Operations, services and activities of a custodial program.
- Tools, equipment and supplies used in providing comprehensive custodial and minor building maintenance services.
- Knowledge of safe use of cleaning products.
- Principles of sanitation and disinfection.
- Safe use of various cleaning chemicals and supplies.
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
Ability to:
- Perform a variety of custodial and maintenance activities.
- Work individually and as a team.
- Explain and comply with department policies and procedures.
- Utilize a variety of cleaning chemicals and supplies in a safe and effective manner.
- Manage time and follow established cleaning priorities.
- Identify custodial and maintenance needs and initiate corrective actions.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all employees and others encountered in the course of work.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, linguistic, and ethnic backgrounds and disabilities of community college students and staff as demonstrated by skills and abilities in cultural responsiveness and cultural humility.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Education:
High school diploma or the equivalent.
Experience:
No prior experience required. This is an entry level classification for the Custodian II classification.

Physical Demands:
Continuous to frequent walking and standing; heavy lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds unassisted. Continuous to frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching; and pushing, pulling, and grasping items.

Work takes place within indoor and outdoor environments.
Hazards:
Work takes place within a variety of environmental and weather conditions. Work may involve exposure to gas, fumes, exhaust, dust, dirt, and tools with sharp edges. Work may involve working at heights when climbing ladders.
