Data Analysis Librarian

Job Summary

University of Kentucky Libraries is vital to fulfilling the goals of enhancing and expanding the university’s research enterprise, and we are looking for a Data Analysis Librarian to strengthen and expand UK Libraries’ research data services, particularly in data refinement, analysis, and visualization. This position will be part of Digital Scholarship and Data, a department of professionals with expertise in research data management, digital scholarship, scholarly communications, and GIS. Serving all academic disciplines, the Data Analysis Librarian will support robust, reproducible, and impactful research across campus.

Responsibilities:

  • Offers data analysis instruction and consultations for students, faculty, and researchers across academic disciplines and colleges.
    • Develops and shares expertise on best practices and workflows for data refinement, analysis, visualization, and modeling with an emphasis on open and reproducible practices.
    • Provides instruction and support in the use of software tools or APIs which enable qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis (e.g. REDCap, Python, R, Qualtrics, SAS, SPSS, NVIVO, Stata, MATLAB, etc.).
  • Collaborates with subject liaisons and campus partners to provide responsive and customized data-related instruction.
  • Develops and conducts outreach to faculty, students, and staff across campus to promote Digital Scholarship and Data services.
  • Actively engages with research coordinators and early career researchers to build capacity for responsible data practices.
  • Remains current on trends and issues related to digital scholarship, scholarly communication, open scholarship, and broader impacts, particularly in the context of research data and code. Shares advancements with colleagues on campus and within the profession through scholarship and service.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program or an equivalent degree.
  • Experience working with data such as analysis, visualization, or wrangling in a professional or academic setting using any of (but not limited to) the following tools: REDCap, Python, R, Qualtrics, SAS, SPSS, NVIVO, Stata, or MATLAB.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new skills and tools; evidence of ongoing, self-directed learning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Instructional or consultation experience with a range of constituents, especially the teaching of technical skills.
  • Experience working in a research environment, academic library, or similar setting (including but not limited to internships, practica, and student employment).
  • Familiarity with a broad range of data analysis tools.

As a member of the UKL faculty, this position participates in planning, shared governance, and UK Libraries-wide faculty activities. This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure eligible position in the Librarian Title Series (open rank) which requires scholarship, professional development, and service that contributes to the effectiveness of UK Libraries, the university, and the profession as outlined in Administrative Regulation 2:7 (https://regs.uky.edu/administrative-regulation/ar-27). Your Distribution of Effort (DOE) range: Primary assignment: 70-80%, Service/Prof. development and scholarship 20-30% and is reviewed at minimum annually each year. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. The minimum salary for a Librarian IV is $57,000 and for a Librarian III is $62,500. This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track eligible position. All career levels are encouraged to apply.
