Job Details

Grove City College invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the Calderwood School of Arts and Letters. The Dean of the Calderwood School, the Dean of the Hopeman School of Science, Engineering, and Mathematics, and the Dean of the Winklevoss School of Business report directly to the Provost, and along with Assistant Deans form the key academic administrative team for the college.

Calderwood School features:

  • The Department of Biblical and Theological Studies, which supports the foundational curriculum in the Grove City humanities core, as well as a growing BA to MA program in Theology and Ministry. A Department of Education that maintains approximately 12% of the total student majors on campus. A Department of Music supporting majors in both music performance and music education, along with a robust marching band, and several cross-disciplinary music performance groups.

The Calderwood School houses the departments of Biblical and Theological Studies and Philosophy, Communications and Visual Arts, Education, English, History, Modern Language, Music, Political Science, Psychology, Social Work, and Sociology.

The Dean must be a leader and collaborator that facilitates the collective effort of the approximately 70 full-time faculty to cultivate a Christ-centered environment where undergraduate and graduate teaching and research are valued and supported.

In this role, the Dean advocates for the school’s vision and strategic plan, along with the Provost, supervises the hiring of new faculty, works to assess and improve faculty performance in teaching, research, and service, manages the Calderwood School budget, and oversees curriculum development, in addition to periodically teaching courses in his or her academic discipline.

Applicants for the position should possess the following qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in a humanities or social science field from an accredited institution.
  • A Christian vision of higher education that is derived from a long-standing, well-thought-out personal affirmation of the Christian faith and a deep appreciation for the authority of Scripture.
  • Broad experience in college administration and strategic planning, from developing an academic vision to planning and implementing that vision while working with colleagues who hold diverse perspectives.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills and a high level of professional integrity, including evidence of the ability to deal effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, and students and to manage complex organizational tasks.
  • The capacity to enhance Grove City College’s strengths, to further its core mission of cultivating the intellectual, moral, and spiritual development of its students, and to help the College lead with grace and humility amidst the changing environment of higher education.

To Apply:

Applicants should send a letter of application that addresses the qualifications described above, a curriculum vitae, an essay explaining their philosophy of Christian higher education and how this philosophy is a good fit with the college’s unique mission (http://www.gcc.edu/Home/Our-Story/Faith-Freedom/Vision-Mission-Values), as well as their philosophy of academic management, and a list of five references (four professional and one pastoral) with contact information. Send these documents to: Mrs. Jamie N. Kimble, Associate Director of Human Resources at employment@gcc.edu
