Dean, College of Science and Engineering

Angelo State University seeks an experienced, visionary leader to serve as the Dean of the College of Science and Engineering. Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean provides strategic leadership and overall direction for the College’s academic programs, research initiatives, outreach activities, and administrative operations.

The Dean fosters excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service by supporting faculty development, championing curriculum innovation—including dual-credit and online delivery—and ensuring program quality and compliance with accrediting and regulatory bodies. Additionally, the Dean serves as the College’s primary representative, building partnerships with community leaders, industry partners, alumni, and professional organizations to strengthen visibility and impact while advancing student success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide Leadership & Strategic Vision

Guides the overall direction of the College, ensuring alignment with Angelo State University’s mission and strategic priorities while fulfilling accreditation reporting requirements.

Oversee Faculty & Staff Development

Leads recruitment, evaluation, development, and retention of faculty, professional staff, and student workers while fostering a collaborative and inclusive academic environment.

Manage Academic Programs & Assessment

Oversees curriculum development, dual-credit programs, online offerings, and program evaluation to ensure academic excellence and compliance with accreditation standards.

Represent the College Externally

Serves as the College’s primary liaison to the Texas Tech University System, alumni, community leaders, and industry partners; actively engages in fundraising and institutional advancement.

Direct Administrative Operations

Manages the daily operations of the College, including budgeting, resource allocation, strategic planning, and safety compliance while supporting faculty and student success.

Qualifications

Terminal degree in science, engineering, or a closely related field. Distinguished record of teaching, scholarship, and service suitable for appointment as a tenured faculty member. At least two years of successful experience as an academic department chair or in an equivalent leadership role. Five or more years of progressive administrative experience at the department chair level or higher preferred. Demonstrated success in fundraising, institutional advancement, and cultivating external partnerships.
