Job Description
Missouri Western State University (Missouri Western), located in Saint Joseph, Missouri, invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Business and Professional Studies.
The Dean will lead a cohesive and collaborative College, building on Academic Affairs and college-level strategic planning. Responsibilities include maintaining a strong leadership team, collaborating with administrators, faculty, and staff for student recruitment, retention, and persistence. The Dean will create and support high-quality educational programs, manage budgets and resources, pursue external funding, serve as chief spokesperson, recruit diverse faculty, guide advisory boards, and contribute to fundraising and partnerships.
Supervision: Faculty and Staff within the College of Business and Professional Studies.
Position Overview
The Dean administers the College of Business and Professional Studies, working with various schools and departments. Reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, serves as principal administrator on educational policies, academic planning, budget, and related matters. Serves ex-officio on committees, provides leadership for recruitment, retention, and applied learning, and supports student success through innovation and collaboration.
Essential Job Duties
- Lead overall operations, providing leadership and mentorship.
- Promote positive environments focused on student success and innovation.
- Facilitate strategic plan development, including goals and data collection.
- Administer budgets, allocate resources, and secure funding.
- Collaborate on curriculum development and student learning outcomes.
- Initiate innovation and program improvement.
- Facilitate collaboration with business and industry partners.
- Ensure compliance with policies and accreditation.
- Direct accreditation processes and promote programs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrate visionary leadership, innovation, and experience in academic leadership. Possess strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to student-centered approaches, financial transparency, and team collaboration.
Required Qualifications
Terminal degree in a business discipline, five or more years in higher education leadership, and a commitment to diversity and student success.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a department chair or director, and with accreditation processes.
Physical Demands
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.
