The College of Education at Fayetteville State University is committed to preparing highly qualified educators and leaders who are competent, committed, and caring. The College supports academic excellence through innovation in teaching, research, and service, and addresses the educational needs of diverse and underrepresented populations, especially in rural and underserved communities.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
As the chief academic officer of the College of Education, the dean serves as the academic leader of the unit and, therefore, must have credentials appropriate to be awarded tenure at the rank of professor in a department within the university. The dean represents the unit to the university and other constituents and must be able to effectively communicate and advocate for the unit's views to the university and the outside community and, in turn, must be able to accurately communicate the university's concerns to the unit. When acting on behalf of the unit, the dean must distinguish between personal views and those that reflect the consensus of the unit. The dean manages the unit's resources and must be able to do so in a fair and equitable manner. In consultation with department chairs, the dean has the primary responsibility and authority for:
