Dental Assistant II
Position Summary:
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Dental Assistant II within the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM).
Under general supervision, the Dental Assistant II will support the Department of Restorative by maintaining the dispensary and providing chairside assistance, as needed, and all related duties for quality patient care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Assists postgraduate student as needed by seating patients, adjusting chairs, draping patients with protective covers and other related functions.
- Assists the department with the delivery of information to the patient, including but not limited to, patient treatment contracts.
- Prepares instruments for sterilization: deliver instruments to be sterilized, retrieve sterilized instruments, stock sterilized instruments, prepare instruments in treatment area and position instruments for provider's access.
- Provides materials by selecting, mixing and placing materials on instruments as requested by providers.
- Exposes and scan radiographs by using intraoral digital sensor.
- Maintains dental supply inventory in the clinic area by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing requests by following departmental protocol.
- Assists provider with educating patients with oral hygiene, plaque control and post-operative instructions.
- Ensures operation of dental equipment/instruments by handling them accordingly to prevent damage and notifying the appropriate person of any needed repairs and/or maintenance.
- Assists in implant procedures by preparing the surgical room for surgery before and after. Maintains safe and clean working environment by adhering to RSDM infection control policy and complying with departmental protocol(s).
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited dental assisting program.
- Valid Radiological Technology License.
- Must be certified in CPR.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to exert force up to 30 lbs. cart retrieval and mobility, reach storage shelves and transport instruments to and from assigned areas.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Clinical/Office/Research dental environments. Moderate noise level.
