Part-time lecturers are solely responsible for teaching their assigned course(s), including teaching all class sessions according to the semester schedule and teaching in the modality assigned to the course. Part-time faculty are expected to be available to students outside of scheduled class sessions for discussion of matters related to instruction, and expected to make course materials available on Canvas. Part-time faculty are responsible for assessing student work and assigning course grades.

JOB SUMMARY

Part-time faculty are expected to be available to students outside of scheduled class sessions for discussion of matters related to instruction, and expected to make course materials available on Canvas. Part-time faculty are responsible for assessing student work and assigning course grades.
TYPICAL ACTIVITIES
Part-time lecturers in the Geological Sciences department may teach introductory geology and general education courses, including laboratory and lecture classes. Part-time lecturers may also teach upper-division general education courses. Depending on the courses assigned to the lecturer, teaching modalities may include in-person, online or hybrid formats.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's Degree in Geology or closely related field, or commensurate experience as determined by the department

- Master's Degree in hand by time of appointment, or commensurate experience as determined by the department
- Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. in Geology or closely related field
- College-level teaching experience
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with CSUSB. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Geological Sciences at California State University San Bernardino includes six full-time faculty members with a variety of research interests, and two lecturers with extensive teaching experience. All CSUSB Geology faculty are committed to high quality teaching and to engaging students as active learners. The department offers B.A., B.S., and M.S. degrees, with teaching assistant positions available to some graduate students. We are located in one of the most geologically rich and diverse regions of North America; the San Andreas Fault is walking distance from the department and featured as a field trip in our introductory laboratory curriculum. CSUSB Geology fosters a strong sense of community through one-on-one student advising and mentorship, peer-to-peer support for faculty and teaching assistants, and numerous geology-focused social events and seminars throughout the year. CSUSB Geologists are active in regional and national professional organizations, and multiple faculty have been recognized for their work through national awards.
