Departmental Lecturer and Researcher in Environmental Science and Policy with a Global South Focus
Join the Environmental Change Institute (ECI) at a pivotal moment in its strategic expansion of environmental science and policy expertise focused on the Global South. We are seeking an outstanding early-career academic with the potential to demonstrate leadership at the science–policy interface and contribute to strengthening quantitative and systems-based approaches within interdisciplinary environmental research and teaching.
This departmental lectureship combines innovative teaching with independent and collaborative research. You will contribute to the MSc in Environmental Change and Policy through lecturing, supervision, assessment, and the development of core modules and electives. You will also supervise MSc dissertations, support fieldtrips and workshops, and help shape a rigorous, engaging learning environment for postgraduate students.
Alongside teaching, you will develop an independent research programme aligned with one or more of the ECI’s research themes, including Climate, Ecosystems, Energy, Food Systems, Global Finance and Economy, Infrastructure Systems, and Land, Society and Governance. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in areas such as environmental systems and risk, systems thinking and integrated frameworks, computational or modelling approaches, and the application of scientific analysis to policy challenges in Global South contexts.
You will hold, or be close to completion of, a doctorate (corrections must be approved) in a relevant field and have a publication record appropriate to career stage, alongside experience in quantitative research and analytical techniques. The ability to teach effectively at postgraduate level, collaborate across disciplines, and engage with policy-relevant research is essential.
This post is fixed term for 5 years and offered on a full time basis (1 FTE / 37.5 hours)
