Deputy Transformation Programme Director

About us:

The Transformation Office supports the senior leadership of the university and leads some of the most ambitious, high impact programmes at King’s. As Deputy Transformation Programme Director, you will take on a critical leadership role, overseeing major university wide transformation initiatives and ensuring they deliver meaningful, measurable benefits.

About the role:

The Deputy Transformation Programme Director has responsibility for leading organisation wide transformation programmes, to deliver on the aims of Strategy 2030. The role reports into the Programme Director and will be initially deployed onto the Campus Futures Programme, helping to steer one of King’s most significant estates and organisational change programmes.

You will oversee the planning and delivery of large and complex programmes and projects to deliver change, defining and working within set budgets, timescales and quality. You will build strong relationships across a wide stakeholder community in a matrix environment, engaging with senior stakeholders and other academic and professional services colleagues across directorates and faculties and with external partners.

The transformation portfolio includes a wide range of programmes and projects and you will be required to lead a team of specialist project staff. You will oversee all stages of project lifecycles, as well as leading broader strategic developments, benefits realisation and change management approaches.

You will also play an active role in the Transformation Office leadership team, contributing to strategic direction and organisational development.
This is a full time (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract. The role is a hybrid role where you will be expected to be on campus at least three days a week and working remotely two days a week.

Essential criteria

  1. Education to degree standard and/or equivalent qualifications/experience
  2. A recognised project/programme management or change management qualification e.g., Prince2, MSP, PROSCI
  3. Significant experience of leading and managing large and complex projects and/or programmes and delivering tangible business benefits and organisational change
  4. Application of evidence-based analytical, creative, and constructive thinking and strategy development skills. Highly effective communication skills attuned to audience requirements and delivered in different formats
  5. An ability to build, sustain and develop relationships at all levels, internally and externally, using persuasion and influence to achieve agreed objectives
  6. Excellent IT skills to support programme and project delivery e.g., MS Office suite, Sharepoint and MS Teams, PowerBI, project management, presentation software
  7. Significant experience as an effective team manager – including experience of working with a positive and inclusive management style to make decisions and inspire and motivate others to achieve results
  8. Ability to engage in collaborative working in a matrix environment across King’s professional services, other faculties, academic and student communities.

Desirable criteria

  1. Experience of process review and improvement methods e,g., Lean Six Sigma
  2. Knowledge and understanding of the UK Higher Education sector
  3. Experience of leading large and complex capital programmes or projects
