Job Summary:

Nature of Work: The Director-Assessment is the administrator of the Office of Assessment and has primary responsibility for assuring that the College assessment program is of the highest possible quality. The director is responsible for overall planning, budgeting, and organizing campus-wide assessment. The director serves as institutional liaison for the Higher Learning Commission/AQIP Accreditation process.

Examples of Work Performed: Assessment Leadership

  • Develop and implement an institutional assessment plan that aligns with the university's strategic goals and objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with academic units to develop assessment and programmatic effectiveness plans.
  • Work collaboratively with academic support offices, student affairs offices, and all other applicable offices on co-curricular assessment.
  • Work collaboratively with academic units to ensure measurable and aligned course learning outcomes (CLOs), program learning outcomes (PLOs), and Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILOs).
  • In collaboration with the academic units, ensure effective, systematic, and regular data collection in line with the assessment and programmatic effectiveness plans.
  • In collaboration with the academic units, ensure data is used to develop ongoing continuous improvement, relevant curriculum, and program effectiveness.
  • Ensure assessment and programmatic effectiveness practices remain consistent with institutional expectations and current best practices.

Accreditation Management

  • Serve as the primary liaison to external accrediting agencies and ensure compliance with accreditation standards.
  • In collaboration with the appropriate campus constituents, coordinate the preparation of accreditation reports, self-studies, and supporting documentation required for accreditation reviews.
  • Monitor changes in accreditation standards and policies, advising the institution on relevant updates and requirements.

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to assessment outcomes, program effectiveness data, and accreditation compliance to inform decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Prepare and present assessment and accreditation reports for internal and external stakeholders when requested including governing boards and accreditation agencies.
  • Maintain compliance with NS-SARA
  • Maintain compliance with other accrediting bodies, state authorizations, and similar agencies as assigned

Training and Development

  • Provide training and support to faculty and staff in assessment methods, data collection techniques, and best practices for program evaluation and improvement.
  • Foster a culture of assessment by promoting awareness of its importance in academic excellence and institutional effectiveness.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with department chairs, academic deans, and other stakeholders to promote interdisciplinary assessment initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of administration, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders regarding assessment and accreditation activities and initiatives.

Policy Development

  • Assist in the development and implementation of institutional policies related to assessment and accreditation processes
  • Ensure policies and practices are following federal, state, and accrediting body regulations

Secondary Duties:

  • Manage the budget and other financial responsibilities for assessment & accreditation
  • Act as content manager for assigned websites
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of the undergraduate and graduate academic review committees
  • Chair assessment and accreditation committees as assigned by supervisors or VPAA
  • Committees as assigned
  • Other job-related duties as assigned

Required Education: Master's degree

Required Experience: No Experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Education: Ph.D. degree

Type of Preferred Education: A Doctorate or Master's degree from an accredited institution in Higher Education Administration, Assessment, or related field

Preferred Experience: 3 years

Type of Preferred Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in higher education assessment, accreditation, or institutional effectiveness. Demonstrated experience with accreditation processes, including successfully navigating regional and programmatic accrediting bodies. Demonstrated experience writing assessment plans, working with co-curricular, and operational assessment.
