Job Description:
Function of Position:
Monroe Community College, a member of the League for Innovation in the Community College, offers over 100 programs across two main campuses and several extension sites. The College is an integral part of the Rochester community, which is rich in educational and cultural resources. The successful candidate will bring a passion for the community college's commitment to access and student success. The Director of Institutional Research reports directly to the Chief Data Officer and Associate Vice President (CDO / AVP), Institutional Research and Assessment, and is responsible for educational research and institutional research, which leads to enhanced understanding and planning in the operation of the College, as well as greater visibility and recognition for the College. The Director provides leadership for the Office of Institutional Research and is responsible for all institutional research functions at the College, including, but not limited to, the leadership and development of a comprehensive institutional research program to support the College's mission and strategic plan; developing, assessing, and improving the College's research and information base; and serving as a clearinghouse for data requests from external agencies. The Office is responsible for supporting a data-informed College community. The successful candidate will bring expertise in recent trends in higher education, institutional research, and experimental and statistical techniques in the Social Sciences to MCC.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
- With the CDO/AVP, provides leadership and direction for the College's educational and institutional research projects. Advises the officers of the College on all matters pertaining to research and its implications for management decisions and strategic long-range planning
- Develops priorities for the office and ensures timely completion of reports and updates
- Assists and encourages academic divisions, departments, and individual faculty or staff members in the planning and implementation of research that advances MCC's mission and strategic plan
- Educates the College on data literacy and translates important college data to faculty, staff, and the community in non-technical terms
- Oversees or performs reporting to a variety of state and federal agencies, such as the federal Integrated Postsecondary Education Data Systems (IPEDS), the State University of New York (SUNY), and the New York Department of Education (NYSED)
- Monitors current enrollments and prepares enrollment projections of students and student credit hours
- Assists in institutional planning relative to academic programs, marketing and recruitment of students, student success, staffing, facilities, and financial resources, where effective planning presupposes an informed research base
- Makes reports and planning information easily accessible via the IR's website, Tableau, and helps with the development of new visual representations of data
- Prepares reports and provides college-related information to internal and external individuals, agencies, and groups
- Assists in the assessment and review of current College program offerings and the identification of new program offerings to meet student and community needs
- Plans and implements studies of current students, their salient characteristics, backgrounds, needs, interests, and academic outcomes
- Provides the College with performance indicators for institutional assessment, including internal trends and external peer comparisons to use as benchmarks
- Regularly administers and consults with the campus community on survey development, implementation, analysis, and reporting of results
- Prepares and manages the annual budget of the Office of Institutional Research
- Provides timely submission of all required paperwork/information as required by the department or College
- Assists with accreditation (Middle States and program accreditation)
- Assists with the development, review, and revision of departmental assessment
- Contributes to the College through divisional, departmental, and college-wide committees
- Actively engages in professional development for self and team
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting, demonstration of excellent time management and communication skills, and the ability to prioritize workflow and multitask
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise judgment and discretion
- Responsible for day-to-day operations of the office, including staffing decisions and addressing related problems as they arise
- Assists in the development of grant proposals and implementation of grant projects, as appropriate
- Performs other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Chief Data Officer and Associate Vice President, Institutional Research and Assessment

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Earned a Master's degree in Statistics, Education, Social Science, Data Science, Computer Science, or other closely related field that includes statistics and/or research methodology from a regionally accredited higher education institution
- Minimum of five years of related professional experience
- Experience in team leadership and development. Proven demonstrated ability in managing large- and small-scale projects
- Experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods, advanced statistics/statistical modeling, reporting solutions, and predictive modeling software
- Knowledge of data visualization
- Proficiency in constructing, managing, and utilizing a data warehouse for institutional analytics in Oracle
- Expertise in Excel and extracting data from an enterprise data system using SQL or related tools
- Evidence of proficiency with technology, in particular: MS Office Suite and SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences)
- Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of College and external constituencies.
- Demonstrated commitment to continued professional growth
- Administrative experience and/or college teaching of sufficient duration to understand the societal context, processes, and procedures of the public comprehensive community college
- Experience working at a higher education institution, particularly community colleges
- Commitment to supporting an inclusive environment on campus
- Evidence of respect for and understanding of people with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs
- Evidence of commitment to the philosophy of a comprehensive community college
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, and writing skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Earned PhD/EdD from a regionally accredited higher education institution
- Experience with computerized student record management systems
- WebFocus or Argos programming experience
- ESRI ArcGIS experience
- Qualtrics survey design experience
- Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently
Additional Information:
Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity, and college budget. This position has a starting salary of $78,000 and may increase based on these mentioned factors.
MCC offers a Flexible Work Policy for benefit-eligible employees. Types of flexible work arrangements include flextime/staggered shifts, remote work/telecommuting, and compressed work schedule. The availability of flexible work arrangements varies by division, department, and position, based upon business and operational needs. Limitations to flexible work arrangements are outlined in the official policy.

In limited circumstances, prompted by business or operational needs, the College may approve requests to work remotely outside of New York State, on a short-term, temporary basis.
