Director of Admissions, YSPH
Overview
The Director of Admissions is responsible for the overall leadership and strategic management of the Yale School of Public Health’s (YSPH) student recruitment and admissions operations. This responsibility includes strategic planning, development of student recruitment policies and procedures, marketing, communications, and outreach initiatives, along with efficiently and effectively overseeing day-to-day admissions processes. The Director is expected to be a visionary and knowledgeable leader who is comfortable utilizing data analysis and strategic planning to develop innovative strategies and practical solutions that will enhance student recruitment and matriculation to the School.
Some additional responsibilities include:
- Work with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs to develop strategic initiatives and protocols to ensure we matriculate the highest quality students and to enhance student recruitment and matriculation yields and annually meet enrollment goals.
- Work closely and collaboratively with other stakeholders at YSPH, such as leaders in the Office of Education, Department Chairs, Office of Finance and Administration, Communications, Admissions Committee members, Alumni Affairs, and other administrative departments, to develop and coordinate enrollment management strategies.
- Supervise Assistant Director of Admission who has responsibility for day-to-day implementation by providing the necessary leadership and management guidance to ensure the successful accomplishment of a myriad of tasks associated with recruitment, review and processing of applications.
- Oversee overall admissions recruiting activities, including in-person and virtual events and activities.
- Use a data-driven approach to admission strategy and decisions by compiling, managing and analyzing key admissions data, enrollment trends and outcomes, demographics, admit/decline rates, and recommend new approaches and strategies for recruitment and matriculation initiatives in partnership with Analytics and Strategy team members.
- Incorporate data-driven decision-making into the school’s overall recruitment and admissions efforts to identify new opportunities to increase interest among prospective students and enhance yield of admitted applicants.
- Ensure the development and maintenance of strategic partnerships which enhance the school’s efforts to recruit students by stewarding the school’s network of relationships and partnerships with external organizations, agencies, and community partners. Oversee overall admissions communications efforts, with Office of Communications, as they relate to the attraction, cultivation, and retention of prospective students.
- Oversee the development of effective communication strategies, web and interactive media, and marketing and promotional collateral materials that can be used for recruiting and community building.
- Ensure key messages with respect to school mission and values are appropriately positioned and integrated.
- Assists Communications team to develop marketing materials for use in recruitment events.
- Evaluate applications for admission and participate in committee selection processes.
- Working closely with the Chair of Admissions Committee, provides the necessary training to Admissions Committee members regarding admissions procedures; including the online review of applications and the admissions decision process.
- Evaluates existing or developing technology and provides necessary leadership in advancing programs based on such technology to improve all facets of the Admissions process.
- Oversee the annual budget for YSPH admissions and ensure office operates within approved budget amounts.
- Represents YSPH at University wide admissions meetings regarding admissions issues, policies and processes.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Proven experience in web-based technologies that support admissions data collection and processing.
- Demonstrated leadership, supervision and staff management experience.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with a wide variety of internal and external constituents.
- Strong analytical and technical skills, including proficiency with advanced MS Office applications and database systems.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the ability to lead diverse teams.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
- Master’s Degree in Higher Education or Public health education, public health background, or experience in admissions at a school of public health.
- 8 years of experience in admission, registration, placement, financial aid and student counseling.
Principal Responsibilities
- Initiates, implements, and communicates admission, financial aid, internship, and career services strategic plans, policies, and procedures. Assesses and refines content of recruitment, admissions and career placement programs based on current trends and demographics. 2. Designs, initiates, develops and conducts programs and materials for recruitment seminars and workshops for prospective students, families, secondary schools and alumni committees. Develops and implements career fairs, panels and other programming for student career services. 3. Develops and maintains relationships with employers and internship sponsors to facilitate career opportunity development with external constituencies, including alumni. 4. Develops marketing materials and admissions publications to inform students, prospective students and families about available services, University policy and academic developments. 5. Supervises, develops, and trains a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees. 6. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field and six years of experience in admissions, registration, placement, financial aid, student counseling or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
