Position Summary
Housed within the School of Education at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver), the Alternative Licensure Program (ALP) provides a vital and innovative pathway into teaching in PreK-12 classrooms, including special education and all secondary content areas. The School of Education is seeking the next energetic and innovative director who will manage all aspects of ALP, including advising potential candidates; instructor and coach hiring and supervision; coordinating curriculum development; communicating with partner school districts, on-campus faculty and staff, seek out collaborative and innovative partnerships, and the Colorado Department of Education; promoting the program to new school partners, managing the budget; and program evaluation. This person may also teach courses and coach candidates in their respective school settings, as needed. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and lead all aspects of the Alternative Licensure Program.
- Advise prospective candidates regarding program details and district hiring procedures, including conducting information meetings at school district sites.
- Work with school district and university Human Resources and School of Education staff to coordinate candidates' eligibility, enrollment, and progress.
- Hire and supervise ALP instructional and coaching staff.
- Plan and host professional development activities for instructional staff.
- Plan and host ALP orientation and Summer Seminars.
- Coordinate curriculum planning and assessment of portfolio artifacts for licensure-only and graduate (MAT) course sequences.
- Teach and coach candidates in their respective teaching assignments, as needed.
- Meet with school building administrators, mentors, and other building staff regarding program requirements and progress of ALP candidates.
- Coordinate Extended School Year (ESY) summer practicum placements in metropolitan area school districts.
- Counsel individual candidates regarding program requirements relating to registration, attendance, participation, district and state requirements, and financial aid.
- Meet regularly with on-campus education faculty and attend departmental meetings.
- Attend university, state, and national meetings as a representative of the Alternative Licensure Program.
- Work with the Colorado Department of Education staff regarding general policies, individual candidates, and program reauthorization.
- Oversee and manage budget and other administrative duties for the program.
- Work with independent evaluator regarding details of program evaluation and conduct evaluation activities with various constituent groups.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree or above in the field of Education
- Minimum of five years teaching experience
- Demonstrated experience developing curriculum
- At least two years experience in teacher supervision/coaching;
- At least two years experience in P-12 or higher education administration
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching and administrative experience in an urban setting
- Experience in alternative licensure programs
- Knowledge of Colorado teacher licensure rules and laws
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills
Salary for Announcement
The salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $80,000 - $93,000.
This position is paid monthly and is eligible for MSU Denver benefits.
Schedule Information
- Full-time, 40 hours per week
- Exempt
- Days of the Week: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm
- Evenings and Weekend Work: As needed
- Schedule: Possible hybrid schedule options
- Travel: Rarely
