Director of Clinical Education for the Department of Physical Therapy
Job Description
The primary responsibility of the Director of Clinical Education (DCE) is to lead and manage the full-time clinical education (Clinical Experiences I-III) component of the curriculum and to function as a liaison between the didactic and clinical education components of the Physical Therapy Program. The DCE serves as a co-instructor for Foundations of Professional Development in Physical Therapy I-III, which occurs in the semesters preceding Clinical Experiences I-III, and is used to help students manage their pre-clinical and site-specific requirements. The DCE will also lead a didactic course based on their areas of contemporary expertise. The term of employment is a 12-month Administrative & Professional Faculty appointment. The successful candidate will hold rank at the Assistant or Associate Professor level depending on qualifications and experience. This is a non-tenure track position.
Required Qualifications
The DCE is a graduate of an accredited physical therapy program and has an earned doctoral degree. Holds an active, unencumbered Physical Therapy license or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Has a minimum of three years of full-time post licensure clinical practice. Two years of clinical practice must include experience as a site coordinator of clinical education or clinical instructor in physical therapy, or a minimum of two years of experience in teaching, curriculum development, and administration in a physical therapist education program. Meets CAPTE criteria for core faculty (4A) and the DCE (4K). Demonstrates strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving and counseling skills. Proficient with interpreting policies and procedures by analyzing, understanding, and applying rules, regulations, laws and guidelines to ensure compliance and effective decision-making.
Preferred Qualifications
Earned APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor. Completion of Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program Level 2. APTA Credentialed Clinical Trainer. Prior experience as a site coordinator of clinical education. Prior experience teaching students in entry-level health profession program. Prior experience with developing and implementing policies and procedures. Prior record of scholarship. Prior record of service to the profession. Contemporary expertise in 1) psychosocial elements of illness and disability or 2) health policy and administration.
