Position Details
The University of Tampa, a medium sized, comprehensive, private university is seeking to fill the position of Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life in the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. The Fraternity and Sorority Life community at The University of Tampa consists of 28 social fraternities and sororities, representing three (3) different councils. Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President of Career Development and Engagement, this position will assist in the development of co-curricular activities for fraternities and sororities that are grounded in student learning outcomes. As a member of the Office of Student Affairs, this position will uphold the values of data-informed practice, sense of belonging, overall well-being, professional staff development, retention and persistence, and Spartan Ready® culture. The work of this position will intentionally align with strategic focus areas to advance the mission and vision of Student Affairs which results in student learning and support for students to grow as global citizens.
Responsibilities
- Implement a strategic plan for the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life focused on the areas of growth, risk management, and retention;
- Supervise the Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority and the Student Coordinator of FSL Administration;
- Serve as the primary advisor for Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) and advise two of the FSL governing councils and their executive boards;
- Provide support and general advisement to fraternities and sororities and chapter leadership;
- Create and execute initiatives around hazing prevention, sexual violence, new member education, and other topics as determine;
- Communicate, interpret, and enforce University and FSL policies;
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with fraternity and sorority community constituents including inter/national headquarters staff, local advisory leadership, alumni, and parents to advance the mission and values of the FSL community;
- Implement FSL chapter accreditation standards, process, and manual;
- Facilitate the assessment and policy revision process for the FSL community including the development and maintenance of an FSL Handbook;
- Coordinate the formal and informal recruitment processes for all social Greek-letter organizations;
- Manage and monitor the FSL annual budget and accounts, and ensure accounts are used ethically and efficiently;
- Chair the FSL Expansion committee and facilitate the expansion process and establishment of new social Greek-letter organizations;
- Generate reports detailing FSL academics, recruitment, and membership statistics;
- Serve as the primary advocate for FSL organizations in the event they are put through the conduct process;
- Chair the campus-wide Hazing Prevention and Education Committee.
- Lead the FSL Presidents' Monthly Meetings;
- Collaborate with the Office of Community Engagement with campus-wide programs and Leadership Awards Night;
- Build a positive rapport with students, staff, and faculty by maintaining availability, visibility, and a genuine, concerned attitude;
- Participate and represent Fraternity and Sorority Life in the Division of Student Affairs, University, and professional activities
- Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.
- Fulfill other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Master's degree required.
- Five (5) years of relevant student affairs experience.
- Previous Fraternity and Sorority Life experience, including leadership and/or advisory role with fraternity or sorority organization is preferred.
- Strong and broad knowledge of student development theory.
- Demonstrated proactive leadership in development of student affairs programs and collaborative relationships.
- Flexible hours required to support evening and weekend events.
- Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to be flexible and manage time effectively in a generalist, learning-centered environment.
- Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.
