POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Grant Support works with both Academic Affairs and Advancement to develop grant proposals and to manage funded grants.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED: Reports to the Provost and the Vice President for Advancement and does not exercise supervision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Proposal Development – Identify relevant program and research areas and potential government, foundation, and corporate opportunities aligned with institutional strengths.
- Provide professional development that encourages and trains faculty and staff to develop grant proposals.
- Collaborate with researchers and program supervisors to develop, prepare, and edit compelling grant proposals, including research or program design, budget, and timelines, in compliance with grant funder guidelines.
- Track submissions, rejections, and resubmissions.
- Contract Negotiation – Review and negotiate contract terms with grant funders, ensuring appropriate intellectual property protections and financial arrangements.
- Manage the legal and administrative aspects of grant agreements, including subawards.
- Project Management – Oversee the execution of grant agreements, ensuring adherence to timelines, budget, and deliverables.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders including researchers and program supervisors, administrators, the Institutional Review Board, and Financial Services to facilitate smooth grant execution.
- Monitor progress, address any issues, and communicate effectively with grant funders.
- Compliance Management – Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations regarding grants including federal, state, and institutional guidelines on ethics, human subjects, animal welfare, and conflict of interest.
- Conduct necessary administrative tasks such as effort reporting, financial reporting, and data management.
- Update grant policies and procedures as needed.
- Relationship Building – Cultivate, develop, and maintain strong relationships with foundation and corporate partners and funding agencies.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in a relevant field of research or equivalent experience
- Strong understanding of research methodologies and principles
- Expertise in grant writing and proposal development
- Familiarity with relevant regulations and compliance requirements for grants
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse stakeholders
- Proven ability to manage complex projects and timelines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to sit at a desk and computer for various lengths of time.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Work experience in higher education
- Advanced degree
- Experience working with underrepresented, first-generation, Pell-eligible, and diverse populations
