Job Description:
Budget Title: Senior Staff Associate (SL-5)
Salary: $85,000 - $88,000
Reports to: Assistant Vice President, Diversity, Equity, and
Inclusion (DEI)
Binghamton University seeks applicants for the Director of
Intercultural Affairs who will provide strategic and innovative
leadership to the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) and the LGBTQ
Center. The Director of Intercultural Affairs, serves as a key
leader in the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion working
collaboratively across divisions of the University. The Director
assists the campus community by developing a strategic vision and
identifying key priorities. The Director will also develop,
implement, and assess programs and services designed to increase
and enhance the recruitment, retention, success, and educational
experiences of our students, with a particular focus on our
underrepresented and historically marginalized students.
We are seeking a collaborative and transformative leader, who will
work across departments and with student leaders to create programs
and continued dialogues focused on aspects of diversity, equity,
inclusion, engagement, restorative justice, and reconciliation.
This new leader will be well informed on the application of student
development, intersectionality, racial identity theories, and
community building.
About the MRC and LGBTQ Center:
The MRC and the LGBTQ Center are home for many students and viewed
as a resource for students, faculty and staff; as each provide
opportunities for collaboration, as well as academic, cultural, and
personal support and guidance. Further, the staff in the centers
work collaboratively with student organizations, faculty, staff,
alumni and community-based organizations to develop creative
programs and projects designed to enhance cross-cultural
competency. We are seeking a leader who is able to connect the work
of both centers through shared leadership, intersectional
programming and inclusive spaces.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as a key member of the Assistant Vice President for
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion leadership team and coordinate the
formulation and communication of departmental mission, goals, and
successes.
Manage the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the
MRC and LGBTQ+ Center as well as administrative aspects, such as
fiscal oversight.
Supervise professional staff, graduate assistants, and student
employees and leaders.
Create, support, and carry out college-wide diversity/cultural
programs and initiatives that aim to enhance the recruitment,
retention, academic success and graduation of underrepresented
students.
Work collaboratively with various offices to promote student
success and address the needs of students of color, LGBTQ+
students, first-generation college students, international
students, and other underrepresented student populations.
Develop and monitor communication and outreach efforts with
students, as well as social, spiritual, religious, and
cultural-identity based clubs and organizations.
Serve as a senior-level advocate and subject matter expert to
build positive advocacy and collaborative relationships within the
local community.
Requirements:
- Master's degree (or higher) in Higher Education, or closely
related field.
- At least 2 years of progressive higher education experience
advancing diversity, equity and inclusion programs and
initiatives
- Supervisory experience
- Demonstrated success integrating theory with practice in higher
education and multicultural affairs
- Demonstrated experience conducting and facilitating
professional workshops
- Oral and written communication skills
- Experience with budget management
- Critical thinking skills with the ability to address and
effectively manage conflicts
Preferred:
- Ph.D. or terminal degree
- Demonstrated experience in assessment and evaluation of
learning outcomes
- Ability to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of student
development theory, specifically as it applies to students of
color, LGBTQ students, and other underrepresented populations
