"Director of Physical Plant"

Defiance College invites applications for the position of Director of Physical Plant, a senior leadership role responsible for the comprehensive management and oversight of all campus buildings, grounds, and related infrastructure systems. This is an immediate opening for a strategic, hands-on leader committed to operational excellence and campus stewardship.

The Director of Physical Plant provides leadership and direction for the planning, engineering, maintenance, safety, and overall functionality of the College’s physical assets ensuring that campus facilities and grounds effectively support the academic mission and daily operations of the institution. Responsibilities include:

• Overseeing all aspects of campus facilities operations, including equipment repair and preventive maintenance
• Managing utilities and major systems including HVAC, electrical distribution, fire alarm systems, waste management, and related infrastructure
• Directing construction, renovation, and remodeling projects
• Supervising custodial and groundskeeping services
• Leading, supervising, and developing departmental personnel
• Overseeing communication and transportation systems
• Developing and managing operational and capital budgets aligned with institutional short- and long-term priorities
• Establishing and maintaining emergency response and recovery plans in compliance with OSHA standards and all applicable regulations, statutes, and codes
• Representing the College in internal committees and with external officials, contractors, and regulatory agencies

The successful candidate will demonstrate proven management and organizational leadership abilities; strong supervisory, interpersonal, and communication skills; exceptional attention to detail; and the ability to prioritize, manage multiple concurrent projects, meet deadlines, and operate within established budgets. The individual will be required to respond to emergency calls beyond normal business hours and must hold a valid driver’s license.

A bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or a related field and a strong background or formal training in HVAC, refrigeration, electrical systems, and building construction is required.
