Job Description Summary

The Director of Research works closely with the Faculty Director and Managing Director to develop and execute HIP research, while supporting the overall research operations across the Housing Initiative at Penn. This role would roughly require: ⅓ of the Director's time being devoted to HIP operations, including staff research support, grant development, and administrative tasks; ⅓ of the Director's time being devoted to directly engaging in HIP research projects; ⅓ of the Director's time being devoted to developing new research the Director (or other HIP staff) can lead in conjunction with the HIP team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Establish research and quality standards and ensure they are being adhered to across all research projects.
  • Develop new research projects and research directions alongside managing director and faculty director.
  • Work with the Faculty Director and Managing Director to prioritize and manage research and projects.
  • Lead and conduct research on projects.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and organize trainings to enhance research capacity.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • PhD with and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. The successful candidate must be extremely well organized and resourceful. They must thrive in multi-tasking environments and be a self-starter with a results orientation. Understanding of housing policy issues required. Strong interpersonal communication skills are essential with the ability to communicate effectively across a diverse community. The position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and as part of a team, with the ability to thrive in a diverse working environment. Proficiency and comfort with Microsoft applications.
