Gustavus Adolphus College seeks a talented and proven Director of Social & Digital to join our team full time. The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership and creativity in the digital space, finding ways to bring our brand to life across social media and beyond. This position is key to furthering the College's communication and marketing objectives, including student enrollment, engaging Alumni and donors, and amplifying the energy across campus.

Employment Status: Full-time (1.0 FTE), Exempt (Salaried), and Benefits-Eligible

Salary Range: $70,000-$85,000

JOB SUMMARY: This position is a key part of the Marketing & Communications team, offering leadership and counsel across our digital properties. In this role, you will play a central role in telling our story and demonstrating what sets Gustavus apart. You will work closely and collaboratively with our marketing team to develop strategy that supports our brand. You will be MarComm's point of contact for partners and leaders across campus, helping drive impact through your deep understanding of our brand guidelines and your creative approach to social and digital strategy. This role will lead the direction of how we show up across our digital properties, making creative decisions that will lead to new programs, dynamic content and heightened engagement across the region.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contribute to a growing, high-performing team while promoting a strong culture of collaboration, excellence and accountability.
  • Oversee our digital online presence-with responsibility for social media profiles, digital marketing and some website assets-ensuring content works seamlessly together and follows our brand guidelines.
  • Working closely with the Chief Marketing Officer as well as key marketing leads to build digital strategy that aligns across our earned, paid and owned media content.
  • Oversee one direct report, focused on content creation and delivery.
  • Operate in a cross-functional environment developing strategy that will support our Gustavus brand.
  • Manage our share of voice across our key markets and operating spaces.
  • Work with partners and leadership across campus to provide counsel and direction on our social and digital placements, ensuring content aligns with our brand guidelines.
  • Bring a keen eye to our social media structure, optimizing our platforms and establishing best practices for building our audience and engagement.
  • Oversee our Gustuavus community management.
  • Develop a community connector program, which will identify and work with social media profiles providing strategic, authentic content highlighting campus life and experiences.
  • Oversee our digital content calendar.
  • Build and foster relationships that will help enhance and streamline our social media presence across campus and throughout the region.
  • Manage external partner relationships and contracts related to social media or video support.
  • Analyze social media reports and make content decisions based on findings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Prerequisites

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education/Training: Degree in journalism, marketing, public relations, strategic communications, English or a related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5-7 years of paid industry experience in a related field.
  • Writing: Proficiency in AP style.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency in Google Suite and Adobe products.
  • Social Media and Emotional Storytelling: Experience creating short-form content (e.g., social media posts) and content that conveys emotional storytelling.
  • Photography: Background in photography and videography, including composition, lighting, and capturing high-quality images in various environments.
  • Website Experience: Background Content Management Systems (e.g. Drupal, WordPress).
  • Business Mindset: Understanding of how creative content is used and conveyed through key messaging and executive counsel, with an emphasis on brand and messaging.
  • Independence: Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage projects from start to finish.
  • Creative and Detail-Oriented: A creative mindset with a keen eye for detail.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and partners.
  • Time Management: Ability to work under tight deadlines, manage multiple projects, and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
