Director of SU Success
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The SU SUCCESS Director is a grant-funded position supported by the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education. The Director serves as the lead contractor for the SU SUCCESS coaching team and is responsible for overseeing a team of at least four SU SUCCESS advisors, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, wraparound student support and accurate data reporting. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to providing direction and guidance to staff who serve first-generation, low-income, and/or vulnerable student populations in order to close equity gaps.
In addition, the SU SUCCESS Director develops and oversees early alert and early intervention initiatives, maintains ongoing, proactive, high-touch outreach communication, and serves as a key connector among Enrollment Management & Student Success, Student Affairs, and Academic Affairs—particularly when coordinating and implementing student success strategies for at-risk students.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Supervise SU SUCCESS Coaches.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of at least four SU SUCCESS Coaches.
- Serve as a key member of the National Institute for Student Success (NISS) Project Lead team, including participating in weekly meetings with the NISS Coaching Team; co-developing the Diagnostic and Playbook; coordinating data for the Diagnostic and Playbook; and facilitating meetings between the NISS Coaching Team, campus stakeholders, and senior leadership.
- Prepare and submit comprehensive monthly SU SUCCESS reports detailing the number of students served, demographic information, percentages of first-generation and income-eligible students, and student majors.
- Produce detailed semester reports that provide in-depth analysis of student demographics, academic achievement, and areas for program development.
- Monitor team progress by analyzing outcomes for students served compared to non-served students.
- Oversee and guide the SU SUCCESS team in delivering effective student support services, including identifying barriers to student success and making data-informed recommendations for improvement.
- Collaborate with campus stakeholders and student support leaders to ensure the delivery of coordinated holistic student support services.
- Leverage existing technologies (e.g., SSC Navigate, Course Scheduler, DegreeWorks) to enhance student support, track engagement, and evaluate overall program effectiveness.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required at the time of hire.
- Minimum of five years of experience in higher education, with a focus on institutional reporting and student support.
- Demonstrated experience managing teams and supervising staff.
- Proven project management experience.
- Experience using data analysis and reporting tools such as Google Sheets, Excel, Qualtrics, and/or SPSS to calculate, analyze, and report student success data.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to satisfactorily pass a Criminal History Systems Board (CORI) check and a background check acceptable to the University.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Familiarity with the TRIO Student Support Services model, including advising, student support practices, and data management and reporting.
- Experience working with first-generation, low-income, and/or vulnerable student populations.
- Experience using data and early alert indicators to inform outreach strategies and student support planning.
