Director of the Center for Talent and Workforce Development (CTWD)
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES This full-time staff position is a 12-month appointment that requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, with a Master’s degree preferred. Teaching and administrative experience is also preferred.
The Director is responsible for administrative oversight and leadership of the CTWD and compliance with the accreditation standards of SACS-COC, if applicable. The Director reports to the Vice President for Enrollment Management. This position develops, implements, and oversees systems and processes related to talent and workforce development, provides leadership and oversight of the Center, and develops and manages relationships with external partners and businesses.
This position will coordinate closely with the Provost’s Office and Academic Affairs on the development and implementation of non-credit, non-degree career training, certifications, and continuing education programs to meet the needs of the regional workforce and align with the overall mission of the university.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Support the University’s commitment to work-based learning and apprenticeships to serve business and industry as well as students (present areas identified include viticulture, mechatronics, unmanned aerial drones, vocational nursing, cybersecurity, medical certifications, banking)
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, community, businesses and industry to increase upskilling/reskilling of the labor force and to increase job placement.
- Increase enrollment and support the local economy by working to graduate students from vocational programs to fill “primary jobs” needed by local companies, which ultimately export their products or services to regional, statewide, national, or international markets.
- Oversee special projects and pilot programs related to certificates, credentials, and other upskilling curricula.
- Organize and develop training offered by the Center that will make up various programs leading to micro-credentials, certificates, certifications, and associate degrees.
- Develop, plan, implement, and administer the Center’s goals in alignment with the University’s strategic plan and mission.
- Devise and implement a marketing and outreach program to sustain and increase enrollments.
- Build capacity within the Kerrville community and beyond to promote and staff businesses, manufacturing industries and other industries.
- Recruit faculty and students into the program.
- Provide vocationally focused training to at least 150 students across priority regions that have been identified by the Kerr Economic Development Corporation and in other areas beyond these priorities
- Develop current talent to fit workforce needs and a workforce that is necessary for the future and the continued economic gains experienced by the Kerrville community and beyond.
- Make budget recommendations related to faculty development and employment needs as well as program resources.
- Seek external funds to support program needs as necessary.
- Coordinate with local and regional schools, industry and workforce related entities as practice partners.
- Help to increase the local talent pool to support regional businesses and offer help to non-college educated workers.
- Familiarize self with the university mission, values, policies, and procedures.
- Continue to review, improve, and develop co-curricular opportunities for the CTWD programs and students.
- Sustain, develop, and revise the CTWD curricula.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Contribute to team efforts to deliver a quality education program by completing assigned activities as requested promptly.
- Supervise the operations of the Center and the work of others in the Center.
- Act to facilitate sustainable inter-professional relationships between faculty, students, University administrators and employees, and public or private organizations using professional communication techniques.
- Maintain the University and professional safety rules.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree required; a Master’s degree preferred in a related field
- Knowledge of advising and career counseling practices
- Knowledge of business management and fiscal practices
- Knowledge of principles and methods for promoting programs and services
- 5 years of related experience
- Ability to work effectively with faculty and University committees and with public and private organizations both within or beyond his or her discipline.
- Must have a valid Texas driver’s license, related insurance and good driving record
