This is a non-tenure instructional associate professor (fixed term; 10.5-month yearly appointment over 5 years; possibility of renewal depending on performance evaluation and/or institutional needs). Primary duties will include a reduced load (2-2) to allow for the management of our First Year Writing Program (FYWP). Duties include: 1) representing the FYWP at university meetings; 2) updating syllabi, selecting textbooks for ENGL 1301, 1302, and 2311, and exploring ways to improve FYWP curriculum in consultation with faculty members, the department chair, and the college dean; 3) overseeing assessment of FYWP courses; 4) conducting observations and evaluations of faculty members teaching in the FYWP; and 5) applying for internal and external grants to improve and innovate the FYWP curriculum, materials, pedagogical techniques, and FYWP faculty members. Duties also include providing on-going professional development to faculty teaching in the program; helping to identify qualified adjuncts who can teach FYWP courses; and actively participating in department, college, and university initiatives. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

The Department of Humanities offers BA and MA programs in English, History, and Spanish, as well as eight minor programs.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold an earned doctorate in Rhetoric and Composition, or English. ABDs will also be considered but must have earned a doctorate before appointment. We strongly encourage candidates with 1) prior experience coordinating a First Year Writing Program or Writing Center, 2) prior experience developing and leading professional development sessions for faculty, and 3) the ability to teach the courses in the FYWP, as well as courses that support our English majors and minors, such as: Teaching of Composition, Writing in the Disciplines, and Advanced English Grammar.

We offer competitive salaries and a benefits package including health insurance, retirement benefits, and life insurance. Additional pay is available for summer teaching. Financial support for professional development opportunities, such as attending academic conferences, is also provided. Moving expenses are covered in whole or in part by the university.
