University of California, Santa Barbara (UC Santa Barbara), a leading institution of higher education located in Santa Barbara, California, invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for its director of transportation & parking services (director). This is an on-site leadership role.
UC Santa Barbara is a public land-grant research institution. Tracing its roots to 1890 as an independent teacher's college, UC Santa Barbara joined the prestigious University of California system in 1944 as its third-oldest undergraduate campus. As a leading research institution providing a comprehensive liberal arts learning experience, UC Santa Barbara welcomes approximately 26,000 undergraduate and graduate students each year to its beautiful oceanside campus. The university is regarded as a "Public Ivy" institution and is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU).
As a key member of the Department of Housing, Dining & Auxiliary Enterprises (HDAE), the director reports to the senior executive director of auxiliary services and manages a $10 million departmental budget. The director is responsible for the planning, management, and daily operations of the university's transportation operations and parking services, including parking facilities and structures, permit sales, citation administration, special events parking, fleet services, transit demand management programs, and monitoring and public safety support. Working closely with HDAE leadership, the director establishes strategic goals and policies, manages fiscal resources, and applies appropriate practices in consultation with campus leadership and constituents. The director supervises and manages a seasoned and experienced team of 30 employees, including four direct reports with over 50 years of institutional history: the assistant director of transportation services; the assistant director of permit sales, adjudication & field technology; the assistant director of events & parking enforcement; and the transportation alternatives program manager. Together, this team shares responsibility for an auxiliary services organization that manages a parking operation that totals over 9,300 spaces of structured and surface parking spaces and a transportation system with over 450 vehicles.
Salary Range: $150,000-$170,000
QUALIFICATIONS
Requirements include a bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Progressive experience in transportation services is required, preferably in higher education or a municipality. This includes strong managerial and leadership experience supervising staff and running day-to-day operations, with the ability to develop and communicate the organization's mission and vision.
