DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent/Vice President, Equity & Student Achievement, plans, organizes, controls, and directs the processes, programs, and operations of the Veterans Resource Center. including introduction to admission, registration, counseling, and financial aid services available to Veterans Resource Center students. The Director is responsible for the creation and implementation of programs in order to support student retention and success of the students in the center. This position is directly responsible for the day-to-day operation and supervision of full and part-time staff. Develops, recommends, organizes, and implements techniques and practices to improve the program’s functions, ensuring optimum performance and service to students, including any grants related to these functions. Stays current with federal, state, and local requirements and best practices; continuously monitors and adopts state-of-the-art practices, remaining informed about the latest developments and trends in the field. Performs other duties as assigned.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
- Develops, plans, and organizes events, activities, organizational fairs, campus activities, meetings, presentations, and programs to provide equitable access to information and assistance to Veterans Resource Center students. (E)
- Organizes and monitors the certification of Veteran's benefits under the guidelines, i.e., School Certifying Official Handbook, set by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. (E)
- Works collaboratively with various campus departments and external organizations to coordinate support services and resources for Veterans Resource Center students. (E)
- Assists in developing and implementing equitable strategies to promote access, recruitment, success, retention, and completion of educational goals for Veterans Resource Center students. (E)
- Coordinates the dissemination of College program data, service information, and available resources to Veterans Resource Center students. (E)
- Serves as a liaison between prospective Veterans Resource Center students, current students, college departments, other higher educational institutions, and community partners/agencies. (E)
- Recruits, trains, directs work, and evaluates student workers, including, but not limited to, initial and ongoing training, meetings, and office duties. (E)
- Maintains and updates student records as necessary; monitors student progress and engagement with Veterans Resource Center activities; verifies students are meeting program requirements; determines student eligibility for program participation. (E)
- Provides and coordinates various services for Veterans Resource Center students, such as case management and activities to assist students in their academic achievement and personal growth. (E)
- Uses student information systems to record and retrieve student data.
- Assists in office recordkeeping and filing activities, assembles data and prepares reports, and maintains equipment and office inventory using a variety of platforms.
- Attend departmental staff meetings, in-services, job-related conferences, workshops, and seminars, sharing learned material upon return to campus.
- Some travel is required.
- Performs other related duties as may be assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree from an accredited college/university and two (2) years of full-time experience in student services in a higher education setting.
OR
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university and four (4) years of full-time experience working in student services in a higher education setting.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with veteran services or experience in providing equivalent veteran services with federal, state, or local agencies.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Driver’s License and current auto insurance as required by state law
- Work a variable schedule to accommodate evening, weekend, and holiday hours
- Certification as a Certifying Official with the Department of Veterans Affairs must be obtained within the probationary period and maintained throughout employment.
