Disability Accommodation Program Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY

The Disability Accommodation Program Assistant provides part-time support for the Office of Disability and Equity by assisting with accessibility services, assistive technology coordination, testing accommodations, and front-desk operations. This position plays a key role in ensuring smooth daily functioning of the office, maintaining accurate records and inventory of assistive technology, and upholding strict confidentiality when handling sensitive student information. The Disability Accommodation Program Assistant supports students through direct interaction, resource guidance, and proctoring services, and contributes to departmental programming. The role also assists with outreach efforts to expand ODE services and visibility across all CCA campuses in alignment with CCAs mission of equity and access.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Front Desk Operations & Student Support
  • Serve as a point of contact for visitors by creating a welcoming, inclusive, and professional environment.
  • Provide accurate information about ODE processes, services, and resources, referring students appropriately to ODE staff.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in alignment with FERPA, HIPAA, and all institutional confidentiality standards.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills when supporting students with disability-related questions or needs.
  • Proctor exams using approved software and accommodation procedures, ensuring academic integrity and adherence to accessibility requirements.
  • Prepare testing environments to meet accommodation and accessibility standards, including technology setup and documentation.
  • Monitor exams with attention to detail, accuracy, and professionalism.
Administrative & Operational Support
  • Support office workflow through the organization of digital and physical files, processing of paperwork, and creation of clear and accurate documents.
  • Assist staff with research and implementation of disability-related tools, technology, innovations, and best practices.
  • Track and maintain accurate records related to assistive technology usage, inventory, equipment checkouts, and student needs.
Assistive Technology Support
  • Provide foundational support to students using assistive technology, including screen readers (JAWS, NVDA), speech-to-text tools (Dragon NaturallySpeaking), note-taking technology (Livescribe, Genio), and other accessibility tools.
  • Troubleshoot software and hardware issues and escalate complex concerns to professional staff as needed.
  • Offer introductory training or orientation for students on available tools and accessibility features.
  • Collaborate with ODE staff to evaluate new assistive technology and update resource guides and documentation.
Programming, Outreach & Events
  • Assist with developing, editing, and distributing marketing and outreach materials for ODE programs and events.
  • Support planning and execution of virtual and in-person workshops, trainings, and accessibility or student-success events.
  • Provide event logistics support, including setup, communication, and follow-up.
  • Contribute efforts to expand ODE services, visibility, and programming across all CCA campuses, including assisting with outreach, tabling, staffing and coordination of accessibility-related initiatives at multiple locations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, follow through on responsibilities, and work independently without close supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, with the ability to provide high-quality customer service to a diverse student population.
  • Proven reliability, punctuality, and professionalism, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information appropriately.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software quickly; familiarity with assistive technology tools is preferred.
  • Self-directed, patient, and adaptable, with a strong interest in accessibility, disability services, or educational technology.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to supporting the diverse student body of the Community College of Aurora.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Salary Range: Anticipated starting salary is $23.00 per hour with an associates degree and 21.50 per hour without a degree. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
