Dispatcher

The Department of Security Dispatchers' responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting students and campus employees via the phone, email, and in person. As well as the ability to respond appropriately to 911 or non-emergency numbers.
  • Dispatchers also provide administrative office support and must be able to perform various secondary administrative and clerical duties.
  • The ideal candidate should have excellent oral and written communication skills, experience in Microsoft Word and Excel, and the ability to remain calm and in control within a busy professional workplace. Department of Security Dispatchers work within a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week operation, and due to the nature of the position, Dispatchers will be expected to work an 80-hour pay cycle with a fluctuating schedule, inclusive of holidays, nights, and weekends.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Answer multiple phone lines and dispatch officers to appropriate locations using a two-way radio, on and off campus, for daily calls and emergency situations.
  • Assist walk-ins with their inquiries following established procedures.
  • Provide safety awareness through daily contact with the university community and visitors by providing general safety information, directions, and parking information.
  • Dispatch officers to all emergencies, coordinate law enforcement, medical, and /or fire assistance, provide a proactive role after the emergency, and make appropriate notifications on campus as directed.
  • Utilize the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system as appropriate.
  • Provide clerical support as needed, special projects, scanning, and data entry.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • May be required to work during emergency situations, which may require the dispatcher to remain at the university until the emergency situation has terminated. Work designated alternate hours and perform other responsibilities as needed.

Requirements:

  • State of Florida driver's license and maintain a good driving record as defined per Florida Tech insurance guidelines – Required.
  • High school diploma or GED.

Experience/Skills:

  • Administrative experience, dispatch experience, and computer knowledge in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word.
  • Familiarity with our industry is preferred.
  • Security, military, law enforcement, correctional, medical, dispatch, and/or administrative support experience is favored.
