Division Director of Angio/IR; Vice Chair of Image-guided Medicine

Job Description

The Department of Radiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and innovative leader to serve in a dual role as Division Director of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (VIR) and Vice Chair of Imaging-Guided Medicine. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of interventional radiology within a nationally recognized academic health system.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative and collegial department committed to clinical excellence, innovation, and academic advancement. When fully staffed, VIR will include over 10 interventional radiologists supported by a team of experienced advanced practice providers. Our practice spans three hospital sites, including the flagship 800+ bed University of Maryland Medical Center. There is considerable opportunity for strategic outpatient growth as well inpatient growth within the 11-hospital University of Maryland Medical System.

The ideal candidate will have strong IR clinical skills as well as an interest in practice building and programmatic development. Leaders should have a keen interest and aptitude in faculty recruitment, retention, and development. In the capacity of Vice Chair, the leader will be expected to outline and implement a strategic vision which optimizes image guided interventions not only within VIR but also across the Department's scope (Abdominal radiology, musculoskeletal imaging, Neuroradiology etc.).

The Division supports competitive ACGME-accredited integrated and independent IR residencies and successful candidates should have an interest in working with residents and fellows. This position is conceptualized as 60% clinical and 40% non-clinical (administrative, academic), although specifics of administrative time, research, and educational support will be discussed with individual candidates depending on their background and experience. There is support from the Chair for the research and educational missions.

Under new leadership, the Department is undergoing a dynamic transformation building on its longstanding legacy of excellence. The Department has a new competitive compensation plan coupled with a focus on faculty flexibility in schedules and staffing. Typical academic IR schedules consist of 15 weeks non-clinical time (40 academic days, 11 CME days, and 25 vacation/personal days) as well as 14 paid holidays. The Department is also now offering clinical-track IR positions (higher salary, no academic time) as well as atypical schedule (14 on 14 off vs. 7 on 7 off) IR faculty positions. Compensation is competitive, with a signing bonus and performance-based incentives. Incredible comprehensive benefit package with generous retirement contributions and family/medical leave policies.

Consider this exciting opportunity to lead and grow a world class interventional radiology practice across an academic health system! Faculty rank is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Please enquire by email for more details and attach your CV: tarek.hanna@som.umaryland.edu
