The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the central coordinating and support organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges. TCCS, with about 300 staff members, provides exceptional shared services to 9,000 students, and almost 3,600 faculty and staff. TCCS staff work in both student-facing services as well as administrative and operational services. Our numerous departments are located throughout The Claremont Colleges campus in the beautiful city of Claremont, California.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Drucker Project Cataloging Assistant performs copy cataloging work and catalog maintenance to ensure that publications held by the Drucker Literary Trust, the Drucker Institute and/or the Drucker Archives are described and discoverable. Funded through CGU's Drucker Institute, this position is temporary for the duration of a project for a total of 200 work hours.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Reviews and sorts materials donated to Special Collections based on retention guidelines.
- Provides copy cataloging for print materials by adhering to guidelines established by RDA, AACR2, BIBCO Standard Records, DCRM, MARC 21 format, CONSER Cataloging Manual, OCLC Bibliographic Formats and Standards and the department and Library policies.
- Performs functions in the Library system WMS to add, withdraw, or transfer items pertaining to the project, including the use of provenance tracings, and other notes.
- Assigns subject headings and Cutter and classification numbers as needed for classified library materials.
- Performs physical processing on cataloged items in the project collection.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Unless otherwise stated, the following qualifications are required to perform the essential functions of this position, or the individual must demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed (with or without reasonable accommodation) using other qualifications not listed below.
Education/Training:
- A high school diploma or the equivalent.
Experience:
- None.
Competencies:
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to do detail-oriented work.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Must be reliable and punctual.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in performing copy cataloging.
- Knowledge of cataloging standards, including RDA and AACR2.
- Familiarity with library systems, including OCLC WMS and OCLC Connexion.
- Reading proficiency in at least one language other than English.
Work Schedule: Up to 20 hours weekly for the duration of the project. Work hours will be scheduled between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours may be required. Regular hours may vary due to the needs of the organization or business unit.
COMPENSATION
Pay: The pay rate for this position is $20/hour.
Due to the temporary nature of this position it is only eligible for the following benefits: California Sick Leave, workers' compensation, disability, Medicare, and social security, subject to the terms and conditions in the plan documents/policies.
