Student Services are responsible for nurturing wellness, supporting individual needs, helping students in crisis, improving retention, and enabling positive experiences. Working in partnership across academic schools and professional services, our teams seek to provide a network of support throughout the student journey and aim to optimise student success.
About the Job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a DSA Advisor to join the Regional Access East London (RACEL) team. The post offers a chance to work in a student focused environment where you can make a positive contribution by creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.
You will be required to:
- Act as the primary contact for students navigating the Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) process, offering expert advice and tailored support.
- Conduct assessments, both remote and in-person, to understand student needs and recommend effective solutions.
- Mediate disputes between students and DSA service providers, ensuring fair resolutions.
- Support students in applying for the DSA and liaise with external agencies to secure necessary funding.
- Manage financial transactions related to DSA.
About You
You will have a strong background in supporting students with disabilities and a good understanding of the Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA). You will be a proactive, empathetic, and well-organised professional, capable of providing high-quality advice and solutions tailored to individual student needs.
You’ll bring:
- Proven experience of providing advice and guidance to adults with disabilities, long-term medical conditions, mental health conditions, specific learning differences or neurodiversities, preferably within Higher or Further Education.
- Strong problem-solving skills, using initiative and creativity to address complex student queries.
- Experience of managing workloads in a high-pressure environment and working collaboratively within a team.
- Commitment to equality, diversity, and the social model of disability support.
