Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school and one year of related childcare experience. Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Essential Job Functions
- Establish a safe, healthy, nurturing, fun learning environment that will meet the individual needs of each child. Provide activities that include experiences in a variety of learning centers that rotate regularly based on interests of children.
- Meet requirements mandated by the NC DCDEE and ECERS Rating Scale. Create a learning environment that prepares children for entrance to kindergarten.
- Use Creative Curriculum and NC Foundations for Early Learning as the basis for planning and implementing classroom activities and experiences.
- Responsible for developing and implementing weekly lesson plans that address social-emotional, physical and intellectual development of children.
- Submit in writing to the director, any supplies/materials/equipment needed. Maintain inventory of supplies & equipment for classroom.
- Ensure completion of required governmental and facility forms.
- Keep class information current- including: attendance, family contact, and emergency information.
- Set up work schedules (including duties and responsibilities) for student workers that serve as aides.
- Daily responsibility for the upkeep and inspection of cleanliness of the classroom areas, kitchen duties, and laundry.
- Have knowledge of and be able to recognize common symptoms of childhood illness. Record and document any incidences that occur. Post Health Alerts as needed.
- Ability to provide preventative/corrective measures, respond to, and record/document first aid occurrences as needed.
- Attend workshops & training that pertain to the operation of ASU CDC & rules and regulations mandated by NCDCD.
- Assist in Emergency Drills, making sure that children are safe, secure, and assured in case of emergency. Responsible to have all emergency information in possession in case of evacuation. Inform aides of policy and procedures for classroom drills.
- Lesson plans are age and individually appropriate; based on topics of interests to children in class.
- Communicate with early childhood professionals, including kindergarten teachers, for developmental expectations for preschool aged children.
- Keep up-to-date on current issues and trends in the field of early childhood education by attending conferences/workshops/training and through professional memberships.
- Responsible for instruction and supervision of 20 preschool children.
- Responsible to instruct and guide aides in assisting with implementation of lesson plans and delivering educational activities.
- Provide feedback to co-workers, families, and service agencies regarding developmental progress of children, reminders, and concerns on a daily/weekly basis.
- Daily attendance sheet is checked to make sure parents sign IN/OUT everyday. Look for or document specific instruction from parents.
- Communicate with parents through conversation/conferences/newsletters.
- Ability to provide effective and professional verbal and written feedback to parents regarding daily interactions.
- Ability to collect/record routine information effectively in written form regarding child development, progress reports, and observations.
- Work with intervention specialists to provide inclusive environments for all children, supporting educational plans for individual children.
- Collaborate with approved community resources to enhance delivery of quality educational services to children and families.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
Must have a minimum of an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field, hold a NC Early Childhood Education Credential and SIDS certification. Knowledge of current trends in infant/toddler care and research, primary caregiving, infant/toddler development and ITERS assessment. Ability to work in partnership with families and provide regular feedback on child development. Ability to plan and implement daily records, lesson plans and formal/informal assessments in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Must have a minimum of an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field and hold a NC Early Childhood Education Credential. Knowledge of current trends in early care and research, primary caregiving, childhood development and ITERS/ECERS assessment. Bachelor or Master degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field strongly preferred.
Work Schedule/Hours: Alternating 7:30am-4:30pm shifts with 8:30am-5:30pm shifts, Monday-Friday, based on center’s scheduling needs.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $35,498
