Position Summary

The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member.

The department maintains a focus on preparing students, through the holistic study of children, to become professional educators and advocates of children with the aim of promoting the highest standards of practice in both the local and larger global communities. Teaching assignment may include day, evening, weekend, and/or off-campus classes. The faculty member will be teaching a diverse student population and will be expected to employ a variety of teaching methods to ensure student success.

Faculty may have an opportunity to teach College and Career Access Pathways (CCAP) Dual Enrollment courses for partner high schools and with support from Folsom Lake College staff to provide accessible, high-quality education to high school students earning college credit.

Conduct site visits for practicum laboratory courses (ECE 320 and ECE 321) to observe and support students engaging with infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children in licensed early learning environments; collaborate with community partners; attend and host advisory committee meetings; remain current with California preschool permit requirements and related updates; and travel throughout the greater Sacramento area may be required.

Position Salary Information:
Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree, upper/graduate level units earned, and/or related professional occupational experience per the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers Contract(the initial maximum placement is Class V, Step 8). The instructional assignment may include, but is not limited to, teaching the following courses:

  • ECE 300 - Introduction to Principles and Practices in Early Childhood Education
  • ECE 312 - Child Development
  • ECE 314 - The Child, the Family and the Community
  • ECE 320 - Curriculum and Interactions in ECE
  • ECE 326 - Making Learning Visible Through Observation and Documentation
  • ECE 330 - Infant and Toddler Development
  • ECE 331 - Care and Education of Infants and Toddlers
  • ECE 342 - Constructive Math and Science in ECE

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Masters in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/ family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education OR Bachelors in any of the above ANDMasters in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies or family and consumer studies ORthe equivalent*
  2. All degrees must be from an accredited institution completed by August 20, 2026.
  3. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  • Degree titles must match the stated qualifications exactly (word-for-word).
  • If the degree title differs, or if it contains added, missing, or rearranged words, applicants mustsubmit a completed Equivalency Determination Request Form for the application to be considered. See the Equivalency Determination Process webpage for details.
    + Example: If a masters in Psychology is required but the transcript lists Counseling Psychology and that title is not listed in the Minimum Qualifications, an Equivalency Determination Request Form must be submitted.
  • Previously granted equivalencies mustbe attached for verification. Email hr-recruitment@losrios.edu for a replacement copy.

Transcript Requirements:

  • Transcripts must be from an accredited U.S. institutions or approved foreign evaluation agency.
  • Foreign transcript evaluations must be issued by an AICE (Association of International Credential Evaluation, Inc.) or NACES (National Association of Credential Evaluation Services) member agency. See the Foreign Transcript Evaluation webpage for details.
  • Transcripts mustclearly identify the degree(s) being used to meet the Minimum Qualifications.
  • If more than one degree is required to meet the Minimum Qualifications (e.g., a bachelors and a masters), transcripts for each degree must be included.
  • Transcripts must show the degree title and indicate whether each degree is completed or in progress.
  • If the degree is in progress, the application must state, the month and year the degree is expected to be attained.
