The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the UAB Heersink School of Medicine is seeking a highly organized, dynamic, and experienced Education Administrator to join our team. This leadership role is integral to the success of our educational programs and provides direct oversight of the Orthopaedic Residency Program and the Trauma and Spine Fellowship Programs. The Education Administrator will be responsible for ensuring excellence and efficiency across all aspects of our academic and training programs, contributing to the professional development of the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons.
In addition to overseeing the Residency and Fellowship Programs, the Education Administrator will supervise the Education Coordinator and Office Associate II, who support administrative tasks for additional fellowship programs (Foot & Ankle, Joint, Hand, Sports), Grand Rounds, research activities, and visiting observers.

Key Responsibilities:
- Residency & Fellowship Oversight:
Oversee and manage the daily operations of the Orthopaedic Residency Program and Fellowship Programs. Provide guidance on academic scheduling, recruitment, onboarding, and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards. - Educational Activities & Scheduling:
Coordinate educational activities, including lectures, seminars, research events, and clinical rotations. Manage event scheduling, ensuring smooth execution and timely communication with residents, fellows, and faculty. - Resident & Fellow Support:
Manage resident records, track progress, and maintain documentation for compliance with institutional and accrediting body requirements. Assist with the recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding of residents and fellows. - Administrative & Logistical Support:
Oversee logistics for key events, including interviews, student rotations, conferences, and departmental events. Ensure the smooth operation of all educational programs, from scheduling to coordination of speakers and other necessary resources. - Committee Support & Communication:
Provide administrative support for key departmental committees, including maintaining communication between faculty, residents, and administrative staff. Ensure effective dissemination of important information and decisions. - Compliance & Reporting:
Ensure the Orthopaedic Residency and Fellowship Programs meet accreditation standards. Assist with preparing for site visits, annual reports, and regulatory compliance data collection. - Team Supervision:
Supervise the Education Coordinator and Office Associate II, providing guidance and support for their work in coordinating the Foot & Ankle, Joint, Hand, and Sports Fellowships, as well as departmental Grand Rounds and research activities.
Qualifications:
- Education:
Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, education, or a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for the education requirement only if it is related to the design, delivery, and evaluation of resident, medical student, fellowship, or clerkship educational programs. - Preferred Experience:
At least 3-5 years of experience in academic administration, preferably in a medical or healthcare education setting. Strong experience in residency or fellowship program administration is highly desirable.
