Brief Statement of Duties: This three year term appointment will begin in August 2026. Primary duties include teaching online graduate courses in early childhood education, advising and mentoring candidates from the point of recruitment through the internship, serving as the program director in analyzing program outcomes data for state and national reporting as it pertains to the continued accreditation of the program, and collaboration with early childhood education clinical partners. Online graduate courses may include foundations, pedagogy, and specialized courses with content and clinical experiences in the field of early childhood education. Faculty are expected to actively contribute to service at the department level through committee participation and to the broader early childhood community. The program directorship role requires ongoing collaboration with adjunct and full-time faculty and working relationships with the Michigan Department of Education. This is a campus based position. This position is not currently available for sponsorship.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education: Master's Degree
Discipline/Degree Area: Early Childhood Education
Required Specialized Training/Certifications: Instructor Rank Requires a Master’s degree in early childhood education from an accredited institution. Assistant Professor Rank Requires a Doctorate in early childhood education or related field.
Required Minimum Work Experience: Three years of full-time teaching and/or leadership experience as an ages birth to kindergarten early childhood educator. Prior teaching experience at the university level.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties: Ability to articulate the necessary elements of an equitable and just early childhood classroom setting that supports learner development in culturally responsive ways. Knowledge of current research and educator license standards related to early childhood education methods, curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Experience integrating special education in early childhood content and specialty areas. Current knowledge of the context of early childhood education in Michigan as it pertains to workforce needs, content standards, and license frameworks. Knowledge of inclusion, anti-ableism, and core teaching practices in general and special education early childhood settings. Evidence of teaching excellence in an online environment at the graduate level. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with candidates, faculty, staff, and early childhood education partners. A model of quality organization with the ability to effectively communicate in written and oral form. Ability to collaborate with other faculty and staff to sustain a collegial work environment. A commitment to strategize with faculty, staff, clinical partners, and employers to address the workforce needs in our state.
Additional Desirable Qualifications: Doctorate in early childhood education or related field. Expertise in the use of technology for teaching and learning in graduate online or blended environments in a university setting. Supervising and mentoring interns in a variety of settings. Data collection and analysis in accredited clinically-based educator preparation programs. Evidence of interdisciplinary collaborations that support community or learner-centered innovations. Experience in recruitment efforts. Active engagement in professional organizations re:early childhood education.
