Salary Range: $44,000 to $51,500 annualized, commensurate with education, experience, qualifications, and level hired.

Job Summary
Electrician I-Apprentice: Provide entry level skills in the installation, maintenance, remodeling, repair, operation and servicing of the University's electrical systems from 120 volts and including 480 volts. Under direct supervision, responsible for providing basic craftsmanship as an electrician and assisting journeyman and master electricians as needed. Responsible for the prompt skilled performance of assigned electrical and related duties. Work directly in and with other trades in a team environment and performs other duties as required and assigned.
Electrician II-Journeyman: To provide journeyman-level skills and expertise in the installation, maintenance, preventive maintenance, remodeling, repair, servicing, and operation of the University's electrical systems from 120 volts up to 480 volts. Assembles, installs, and repairs circuitry, switchgear, distribution systems, and all related components. Plans layout and installs wiring for electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment. Works directly in and with other trades in a team environment, and performs other duties as required and assigned.
Core Responsibilities
For Electrician I-Apprentice: Responsible for the prompt skilled performance of assigned electrical and related duties; accomplishes duties such as running conduit, pulling wire, and installing and repairing electrical circuits; observes functioning of installed equipment or systems to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement; works on ladders, scaffolding, and rooftops of buildings; maintains a clean and safe work environment; surveys buildings and performs maintenance on equipment in a multi-trade team working environment, assisting outside the electrical trade as needed; must be available on an “On Call” basis and is required to respond to emergency calls, shift work, overtime, and odd hours to support the University mission; promotes safety and environmental protection by working in a safe manner; immediately reporting unsafe situations, spills, and accidents; following University safety plans/procedures/protocols; and participating in appropriate safety training; participate in training activities toward electrical licensing; performs other duties as assigned.
For Electrician II-Journeyman: Responsible for providing prompt skilled Journeyman level craftsmanship and performance in the installation, maintenance, evaluation, and repair of electrical and related systems; accomplishes duties such as running conduit, pulling wire, and installing; installing and repairing electrical circuits, security devices, fire alarms, telephones, audio/video systems, communication trunks, and computer networking systems; and performs electrical work related to air conditioning and refrigeration; performs service calls and work orders; tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety; troubleshoots and diagnoses electric systems; observes functioning of installed equipment or systems to detect hazards; assists and consults with outside contractors; must be available on an “On Call” basis; promotes a safe environment; works on ladders, scaffolding, and rooftops; maintains a clean and safe work environment; plans new or modified installations; performs preventive or corrective maintenance; keeps current on changes in operational procedures; troubleshoots electrical system problems; maintains knowledge of the current National Electrical Code; surveys buildings and performs maintenance; attends safety training; performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High school graduate or GED; this position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure; valid Texas Driver's License.
For Electrician I-Apprentice: Current State of Texas Apprentice Electrician's License; minimum one year total commercial/industrial electrical experience and/or electrical training through a trade school; ability to operate a forklift and scissor lift (preferred); two or more years of commercial/industrial electrical experience (preferred).
For Electrician II-Journeyman: Current State of Texas Journeyman Electrician's License; skilled Journeyman-level commercial/industrial experience; operation of lift equipment; at least two or more years of Journeyman level work experience (preferred); CDL driver's license on request (preferred).
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of the National Electric Code, state, and local building codes; operating knowledge of power tools and trade hand tools; operating knowledge of electrical meters and locaters, and diagnostic equipment; operating knowledge of high lifts, bucket truck, boom truck, and man lift; knowledge of energy-efficient equipment and products; ability to install and maintain motors, welding equipment, lighting fixtures, generators, circuit breakers, and transformers; ability to diagnose and repair electrical controls; advanced electrical installation, troubleshooting, construction, and maintenance skills; ability to use and read multimeters and megohmmeters; ability to isolate defects; ability to read commercial electrical blueprints; ability to work well individually and as part of a team; critical thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to manage multiple tasks; ability to communicate effectively; ability to stay current with university policy and training.
Positions will be filled as Electrician I (Apprentice) or Electrician II (Journeyman) based on finalist qualifications and department need. UTSA is a tobacco free campus. This is a security sensitive position. Employment is contingent upon a successful background check. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire. Valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) as applicable.

Working Environment: Variable environments including indoor and outdoor locations; exposure to variable Texas weather condition and/or physical hazards; exposed to various mechanical, electrical, laboratories, and other university spaces; exposure to potential occupational hazards; required to wear Personal Protective Equipment; must wear and properly maintain uniforms; required to be on stand-by call status.
Physical Demands: Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear; ability to climb ladders and stairways; ability to work in confined spaces; medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; color vision.
