ELL English Language Learning - Adjunct

ABOUT THE COLLEGE:
Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical students, 15% Adult Basic Education student, and 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, Washington, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Green River's service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse, comprising African Americans, African immigrants, Asian Americans, Asians, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Middle Eastern Americans, among other communities.

- Teach assigned classes
- Maintain communication with the ELL department on a regular basis and complete all needed paperwork for a program funded by the state Basic Education for Adult's Office
- Conduct pre/post tests in CASAS as required
- Participate in new student intake and appraisal
- Attend ELL all faculty quarterly meeting
- Use established materials and help create new materials for classes
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.A. degree
- TESOL certificate or equivalent teaching experience
- Knowledge of adult teaching methods, assessment, and instructional materials
- Ability to use and create materials for classes
- Demonstrated cultural awareness of and sensitivity to major refugee groups in South King County
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in TESOL, or a Master's degree in a related field and a TESOL Certificate
- Experience teaching content based ELL to immigrants and refugees
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Understanding of Career and College Readiness Standards
- Experience with Reading Apprenticeship and contextualized instruction, and CASAS appraisal and pre/post assessment
- Ability to be self-directed and responsible in meeting federal, state, and college reporting and testing deadlines
- Cultural awareness of and sensitivity to major refugee groups in South King County
- Experience with on-line teaching
- Experience using an LMS such as Canvas
