EHS assists the campus community with compliance and promotes health, safety, and environmental stewardship.

With general supervision from the Emergency Services Supervisor and Manager of Fire Protection and Emergency Services, the Emergency Services team provides emergency response to the University community. The emergency service program provides 24/7 coverage. This position provides inspection of AEDs, sprinkler valves, as well as conducting fire drills and shutdowns.

Subject to shift changes and extended working hours (including nights, early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays) to meet business needs.

This is an endowed, union position within the Teamsters Local 317. The starting pay rate is $27.59/hour. (2 positions available)

We require these qualifications:

  • A.A.S. in emergency management or safety-related fields with a NYS EMT Certification and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a related field, or equivalent combination of NYS EMT certification, education, and experience.
  • Experience in emergency response operations and writing and documenting procedures; basic chemical reactions, general safety and loss prevention theories.
  • Required to maintain a minimum level of NYS Certified Emergency Medical Technician.
  • Must have an unrestricted NYS Driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Employee must pass rigid background check prior to final appointment. Passing ongoing background or security checks are required to comply with various regulatory or security agencies.
  • Employees require physical fitness level essential to climb stairs, function on ladders, enter into confined spaces, in hazardous environments and differing heights while wearing various personal protective equipment such as respirators, up to and including self-contained breathing apparatus and full body chemical protective clothing.
  • Employees must participate in annual medical examinations and be fit for duty as required for the use of respiratory protection equipment and for hazardous materials emergency responder work.
  • Must be able to obtain HAZMAT certification per OSHA 1910.120. Must be able to wear a respirator per OSHA requirements.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Required to obtain FEMA certifications: ICS 100, ICS 200, NIMS 700, IS 800.
  • Must be familiar with the following: Fire protection equipment; Emergency and Hazmat Response; and Inspection Processes.
  • Must be able to work any shift.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

You will be a top candidate with our preferred qualifications:

  • B.S. in Emergency Management or safety-related field. NYS Certified Emergency Medical Technician
  • Familiarity and experience in emergency response operations and procedures (this includes all aspects of emergency response including fire, chemical, medical and safety related fields), other regulations relating to employee health and safety, basic chemical reactions and general safety and loss prevention theories.
  • University work experience.
  • Previous incident command experience.
  • Completion of the New York State Fire Officer 1 and/or New York State Hazardous Materials Incident Command courses.
