Manages the day-to-day operations of a small or medium-sized university program or department. May supervise staff employees, student workers, programs or processes.

  1. Plans and develops procedures for administering a small or medium-sized department or program.
  2. Oversees program expenditures and ensures adherence to budget.
  3. Provides guidance to subordinate staff and evaluates performance.
  4. May prepare or participate in the creation of abstracts, research reports, funding proposals, operations and procedure manuals, and other written material and documentation.
  5. Reviews reports of budgets and activities.
  6. Prepares ad hoc reports as needed.
  7. May administer grants and grant-related related communications, scholarships and other operations.
  8. Develops, implements and maintains appropriate policies and procedures.
  9. May serve as property custodian for the department.
  10. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: No experience required.

Additional Duties:

The Energy and Innovation Division at the University of Houston leads workforce development, professional education, and experiential learning initiatives that support the evolving energy sector. Working in close collaboration with energy‑related colleges across campus, the division develops and manages micro‑credentials, graduate certificates, academic programs, learning‑abroad programs, and professional development opportunities for students and professionals. Through industry‑aligned programs, short courses, and strategic partnerships, the division connects faculty, learners, employers, and community partners to build talent pipelines, expand applied learning opportunities, and support student success and workforce readiness in emerging energy fields.

  • Provide direct operational, administrative, and programmatic support to the Executive Director for all energy-related educational programs, including workforce development and micro credential initiatives.
  • Coordinate planning, execution, and follow through for credit and non credit programs, including schedules, instructors, materials, and deliverables.
  • Maintain accurate program data across enrollment, payments, completion, and credentialing systems; ensure data integrity and timely reporting.
  • Track, monitor, and reconcile participant payments in coordination with finance; follow up on discrepancies and outstanding items.
  • Issue, manage, and document digital badges and micro credentials in accordance with program and academic requirements.
  • Support internal and external stakeholder coordination, including academic units, industry partners, government entities, and visiting delegations.
  • Assist with program communications, webpages, payment portals, marketing materials, and participant information.
  • Coordinate logistics for meetings, lectures, events, and site visits, including agendas, materials, and follow up actions.
  • Support compliance, funding, and eligibility efforts, and contribute to continuous improvement of program operations.
