Position Description

James Cook University (JCU) is creating a brighter future for life in the Tropics and beyond, through education and research that makes a difference locally and globally.

We now have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual as an Engagement and Events Librarian to join our team in the Education Division.

  • Part time - 18.125hrs per week
  • Located at the Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus
  • HEWL 6: $90,821 – $98,369 (pro-rata) plus up to 17% employer superannuation contributions, leave loading and other generous employee benefits

WHAT YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH IN THE ROLE

In this role, you will design and deliver a diverse range of events, campaigns and engagement initiatives that enhance the library experience and increase participation across the JCU community.

Working collaboratively with students, staff and external organisations, you will promote Library services, learning opportunities and outreach programs through effective communication and marketing strategies.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning, coordinating and delivering events, campaigns and exhibitions that create vibrant and inclusive Library spaces
  • Increasing awareness and participation in Library initiatives through targeted communication and marketing across digital and physical channels
  • Building and maintaining collaborative partnerships with students, staff and external stakeholders to ensure engagement activities are relevant and impactful
  • Promoting continuing professional education (CPE) and outreach programs to support learning, engagement and community connection
  • Analysing feedback and engagement data to inform continuous improvement of programs and services
  • Ensuring safe, effective and compliant event delivery through sound logistics planning and coordination of support staff

WHAT YOU CAN BRING TO THE ROLE

You are a motivated professional with experience in engagement, events, communications or libraries, with a passion for creating inclusive experiences and connecting people through well‑designed initiatives.

You bring strong organisational capability, creativity and the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences across a complex organisation.

  • Experience planning, promoting and delivering events or engagement programs, preferably within a higher education, library or community setting
  • Strong communication, marketing and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships and engage diverse stakeholders
  • Experience using digital communication platforms and social media, including creating promotional content for events and programs

Position dimension

  • Eligibility for Associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support scheduled events and engagement activities
