Essential Job Duties:
Join our team as an Engineer II and play a key role in shaping the future of NC State's campus through the design and management of capital improvement projects. In this position, you will take ownership of projects from initial planning and design through construction, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal codes as well as university standards. You'll collaborate closely with Campus Planning, Operations & Maintenance, Business Operations, Environmental Health & Safety, and a variety of other stakeholders, serving as the university's primary point of contact for your projects. Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
- Lead project management for design and development phases, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
- Prepare scopes of work and detailed cost estimates, maintaining alignment with project objectives and campus priorities.
- Oversee designer contract negotiations, manage design meetings, and coordinate with stakeholders for seamless project execution.
- Conduct comprehensive design document reviews and provide technical support to construction project managers.
- Approve and process designer invoices, ensuring expenditures align with project timelines and budgets.
- Schedule and conduct project presentations and reviews with University committees, incorporating feedback to improve project outcomes.
- Serve as the university's primary point of contact, collaborating with Campus Planning, Operations & Maintenance, Business Operations, Environmental Health & Safety, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain clear, timely communication with design teams, stakeholders, and customers, addressing queries within three business days.
- Apply working knowledge of building systems, including architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety, to proactively coordinate construction and prevent issues.
- Track project documentation using the AERES system, updating schedules and budgets biweekly, and ensuring adherence to NC State and State Construction Office standards.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to adjust project scope as needed, maintaining financial and operational control.
Other Work/Responsibilities:
- Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities.
Minimum Experience/Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in the Engineering discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require licensure by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications:
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently and as a team player
- Proficiency in electrical engineering field is required, as well as exposure to other allied fields is desirable, such as Civil Engineering, HVAC, and Mechanical Engineering.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Licensure as a Registered PE, preferred.
- LEED accreditation or ability to pass first test within six months of hire date.
Required License or Certification:
- Valid Driver's License required.
- Valid North Carolina driver's license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
