Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Institute is searching for a Engineer III to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment.
We are seeking creative and upbeat Engineer III that Will independently perform complex engineering work. Solves multi-dimensional problems related to design, testing, installation and modification of equipment, processes or structures. Experienced contributor to a team; provides guidance to less experienced engineers and technical staff.
Responsibilities:
- Develop teleoperation, AI, and conventional control techniques for dexterous interaction.
- Engineer a dexterous soft robot hand including sensing, body and joint design, and actuation.
- Optimize sensing, body, and joint design for desired robot hand function.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Ability to pay close attention to detail; keep and maintain accurate and detailed reports and records.

- Visual acuity to perform activities such as extended use of a computer monitor, extensive reading, transcribing, analyzing data and figures, visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines, using measurement devices, and/or assembly of parts at distances close to the eye.

Working Conditions:
- Required to travel to and/or work at off-campus or remote locations.
- Required to work in a normal office environment.
- Required to work normal business hours; evening and weekend work may occasionally be required.

- Accountable for the successful completion of individual goals and priorities.
Direction:
Receives little instruction on day-to-day work and receives general instructions on new assignments.
Supervision:
Authority to oversee the work activities of others. Does not have authority to undertake or recommend employment actions.
Requirements:
- Post-Doctorate Degree
- 3-5 Years of Engineering Design Process Experience
- 3-5 Years of Engineering Experience
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
Training:
- OSHA Hazardous Materials Safety Training
