English Faculty
JOB SUMMARY:
The Department of English and Humanities at Cecil College invites applications for a generalist in English or in Composition and Rhetoric to start in Fall 2026. The faculty member will be responsible for teaching a combination of composition courses to traditional, returning-adult, and dual-enrollment students both in-person and online. Experience with developmental education is preferred; experience with or interest in technical or professional writing is preferred. Additional opportunities may include teaching literature, public speaking, or first-year seminar. The successful candidate will join a collaborative department that is working to grow the English major while supporting the College’s required writing curriculum.
This position is available for Fall 2026 but remains open until filled. For best consideration apply by January 30, 2026.
This is an onsite position located in North East, MD.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Conduct assigned classes in accordance with the approved master course syllabus and stipulations of the department, including but not limited to administering a final exam or culminating activity, meeting all assigned class times and submitting attendance and grades as per college processes. Submit annual reports and assessment data
- Utilize the current College Learning Management System (LMS) as directed by college policy. (Canvas)
- Establish, post and maintain office hours per College policy.
- Adhere to copyright laws provided on the library site for the College web portal.
- Respond in a timely manner to emails. Cecil College email must be used for all email communication with students and any College business.
- Participate in Cecil College academic monitoring.
- Support College-wide testing and actively encourage students to participate.
- Participate in course assessment and program reports, as needed.
- Complete required professional development such as Safe Colleges and required meetings and events.
- Support the mission, vision, and values of the College and the policies of the Board of Trustees.
- Act in accordance with the letter and spirit of applicable laws, College policies, rules, and expectations, and the terms of the contract for the current academic year.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- Master’s degree in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or a related academic discipline; doctoral degree preferred.
- Documented college-level teaching experience in related courses.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and academic advising skills.
- Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology (e.g., LMS platforms, database research, and AI ethics) or proven ability to learn these skills.
- Ability to work with students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Ability to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.
SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:
Schedule varies based on course requirements and College and students’ needs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations and traffic signals when driving.

10 month faculty salary is dependent on placement according to the Full-time Faculty Rank and Promotion policy. The starting salary for each level is: Assistant Professor I $53,789.10; Assistant Professor II $56,478.50; Associate Professor I $59,360; Associate Professor II $64,756.4; Professor I $66,604; Professor II $71,727.
