REPORTS TO: Director, Educational Opportunity Fund
Provides holistic advising for students; assists students in exploring options, setting goals, and creating a plan to achieve desired outcomes; communicates proactively with students throughout all phases of the student experience.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides holistic and intrusive advising for EOF students; assists EOF students in exploring options, setting goals, and creating a plan to achieve desired outcomes.
2. Assists EOF students with complex academic situations, understanding institutional policy and procedure, and completion of forms and documents.
3. Addresses and anticipates student inquiries in-person, by phone, or via e-mail regarding academic advising, withdrawal dates, transcript evaluation, and more.
4. Provides in-person and virtual academic advising for EOF students, including at both Centers on a rotating basis.
5. Assists in the completion of student progress reports, program data, and College and state reports.
6. Conducts workshops in multi-modalities on a range of topics related to academic success skills, financial literacy, career readiness, and goal setting with a focus on community colleges.
7. Assists with the recruitment and selection of EOF participants.
8. Monitor EOF student academic, career, personal, and career progress and develop plans for student success.
9. Assists in the development and execution of the Summer Scholar Institute for eligible EOF students.
10. Attends workshops, webinars, or conferences to stay current on best practices, student-centered trends, and policy initiatives related to EOF/underrepresented student populations.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree
• One (1) year of related experience in a student services, academic advising, teaching or counseling area of an educational environment that required excellent interpersonal and student services skills
• Driver’s license and reliable transportation for local travel
• Experience working with underrepresented student populations
• Ability to work independently, as well as part of the team

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s degree
• Bilingual (English/Spanish)
• Excellent written, computer, verbal interpersonal skills
• Experience with training, public speaking, and/or conducting presentations

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
Duration: Until 6/30/2026, with the potential to extend beyond this date contingent on funding
Must be willing and able to travel throughout the area.
SCHEDULE:
Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., including evenings and weekend hours in accordance with departmental needs.
RETIREMENT: Pension Eligible
Any Middlesex College employee hired after September 1, 2011 will have to meet the New Jersey residency law requirement.
