Epidemiologist, Research Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, Neurology (Tenure-Track)

Provides scientific expertise and leadership for research programs in the areas of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, and healthy lifestyle factors (especially nutrition) to prevent cognitive decline and dementia. Designs, conducts and reports on the neuroepidemiological study of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias as well as cognitive decline in aging with particular focus on nutritional and healthy lifestyle factors, collects and analyzes data and develops grant proposals in these areas of research interest. Leads, manages and participates in investigations and surveys that have national and international impact. Conducts independent research and prepares operational and statistical reports. Writes publishable articles and papers. Performs related responsibilities as required.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Investigate cognitive impairment, Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, healthy lifestyle practices to prevent cognitive decline and dementia, and nutritional epidemiology.
  • Analyze results from studies of cognitive aging and nutrition, and develop manuscripts for dissemination.
  • Develop new proposals and apply for funding to study nutritional and other risk factors for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.
  • Collect and analyze neuroepidemiological data related to Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, healthy lifestyle practices to prevent cognitive decline and dementia, and nutritional epidemiology.
  • Educate the public about health risks and preventative actions to take.
  • Data analysis: Use statistical methods to analyze neuroepidemiological data to identify disease trends and causes.
  • Research: Design and conduct epidemiological studies and clincial trials to assess public health problems related to Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Communication: Explain complex findings and provide recommendations to scientific colleagues, government agencies, healthcare organizations, and the public.
  • Collaboration: Work with other health professionals within department to develop grant proposals and conduct studies addressing research topics.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in a field related to area of research.
  • Track record of leading current or previous federally funded research grants on Alzheimer's disease and related dementias with nutritional and healthy lifestyle focus in a principal investigator role.
  • Strong analytical, statistical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in using statistical software and large databases.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lead multiple federally funded grants at one time.
