Equipment Specialist III
Position Summary
The Equipment Specialist III provides technical instruction and operational coordination in support of simulation-based and clinical skills education. This position delivers instruction on the proper use of simulation and specialized medical equipment, assists with clinical skills training and assessments, and prepares and maintains simulation spaces, equipment, and activities to support student learning and program objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities
Technical Instruction
- Provide technical instruction to students/learners regarding the appropriate use of specialized medical equipment.
- Under the direction of clinical faculty assist with and provide support for clinical skills instruction and training.
- Provide clinical skills instruction and feedback to students. Ensure proper techniques are learned in support of curricular and program objectives.
- Support medical simulations by collaborating with faculty and staff, preparing equipment/scenarios, and participating in scenario scripts as needed
- Participate in the deployment of student clinical skills assessments, including Objective Structured Clinical Exams (OSCE).
- Monitor learning sessions and assist lab users as needed including group and individual training and skills practice. As needed, work with faculty/staff/students to provide other technical instruction and clinical skills training.
- Communicate simulation-related records, data, and statistics to management.
- Maintain proficiency in simulation center technologies including high-fidelity simulation manikins, task trainers, and other simulation equipment and instrumentation; and participate in the training of staff, faculty, and students on the proper use of the simulation equipment.
- As needed, assist with operations associated with human simulation activities, which may include movement of cadavers in excess of 100 pounds.
Operations
- Perform operational planning and preparation for simulation activities, including: Develop, support, test, and run simulation scenarios with faculty instructors. Ensure all scenario programming is complete and meets course facilitator and learner needs, in alignment with the specific learning objectives outlined for each scenario.
- Perform active learning technical operations by setting up, operating, monitoring, adjusting, and recalibrating simulation, audiovisual, and instructional equipment as needed for each session.
- Prepare equipment, props, and other resources for scheduled simulation center activities including active learning sessions, skills training and practice, exams, tours and demonstrations. This includes, but is not limited to, preparation and assistance with wet and/or dry labs.
- Prepare and transport equipment to outside locations for simulation activities as needed.
- Provide guidance and information to faculty, staff, students, and visitors concerning the policies and functions of the simulation center.
- Assist in scheduling learning spaces and resources.
- Actively participate in tours of simulation spaces for the benefit of students, faculty, college staff, university officials, clients, and donors when needed.
- Assist collaborating partners and subject matter experts with the creation and implementation of simulation-related activities.
- Occasional evening and/or weekend work hours may be required.
Maintenance
- Ensure facility and equipment are clean, organized, and set-up for teaching sessions. This includes: Cleaning of instruments Moving equipment as necessary including simulators and other materials that can weigh up to 100 pounds.
- Conduct routine maintenance and updates of equipment and software, and maintain inventory.
- Identify and communicate to management the need for supplies and replacement equipment.
- Interface with vendors regarding troubleshooting and system problems.
Other
- On a limited basis, provide cross-coverage support for other instructional support staff in the college.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
