Job Summary:
A Research Specialist position is available in the laboratory of Dr. David Evans at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The successful applicant will conduct studies directed towards achieving a functional cure for HIV infection, defined as the indefinite suppression of virus replication in the absence of antiretroviral drug therapy. Research projects will involve a variety of methods, including molecular biology, biochemistry, cellular immunology, and the use of nonhuman primate models, to test novel drugs and antibody-based therapies to suppress virus replication.
- This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.
- Candidates who demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities will be given first consideration: applicants with a strong background in virology, immunology or molecular biology.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
- Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
- Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
- Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
- Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
- Performs literature reviews and writes reports

Compensation:
The starting salary for the position is $45,000 annually; but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently in a team environment are expected
Preferred Qualifications:
- Although previous non-classroom laboratory experience is preferred, new graduates are encouraged to apply
- A strong background in virology, immunology or molecular biology
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred; focus in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Immunology or Molecular Biology
