At UNSW, we pride ourselves on being a workplace where the best people come to do their best work.
The School of Mathematics and Statistics delivers a large and diverse teaching program across undergraduate and postgraduate coursework, with assessments conducted in a range of formats including written examinations and computer-based tests. Ensuring these assessments are conducted fairly, securely, and efficiently is essential to maintaining academic standards and a positive student experience.
The Invigilator plays a critical operational role in the delivery of invigilated assessments, including computer-based laboratory exams and pen-and-paper examinations. Acting as the on-site invigilator, the role is responsible for the smooth, fair, and consistent running of assessment sessions in accordance with university policy, School procedures, and course-specific requirements.
Working closely with the Project and Teaching Support Officers (Examinations and Assessment) and in close coordination with the Exam Coordinators and technical support staff, the Invigilator supervises casual invigilators, responds to incidents, and serves as an escalation point during the assessment session.
The role requires sound judgement, calm decision-making under pressure, strong organisational skills, and a detailed understanding of invigilation procedures and academic integrity requirements. The invigilator does not provide academic assistance or interpret exam content but ensures that established rules are applied consistently and that any issues are documented and escalated appropriately.
