Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Dean, the Executive Director of Hospital Operations provides strategic, operational, and financial leadership for Ryan Hospital. The position oversees clinical services, facilities, personnel, and budgets, ensuring integration with Penn Vet's mission. The Executive Director works closely with a collaborative hospital leadership team, including a Chief Medical Officer and Director of Finance, and represents the clinical enterprise within the broader University and veterinary community.
Job Responsibilities
- Leadership and Administration: execute strategic plans; oversee daily operations for all hospital services and facilities; ensure compliance with university, state, and federal policies, and maintain safe, efficient, and sustainable operations.
- Financial Partnership with the CFO: work with Department Chair and Chief Financial Officer to develop operating and capital budgets; work with CFO and Finance team to establish clinical fees and monitor and manage revenue cycles; oversee revenues, expenditures, and service-level metrics; co-lead cost-containment and revenue optimization initiatives; partner with CFO in strategic capital planning.
- Clinical Service and Quality: support excellence in patient care and client experience through oversight of quality assurance, safety, and accreditation programs and implementation of a new electronic medical records system.
- Education and Training: partner with Department Chair, Chief Medical Officer, Clinical Curriculum Associate, and Associate Dean of Education to maintain exemplary clinical teaching and meet Accreditation standards.
- Clinical Research Integration: work with the Department Chair and Veterinary Clinical Investigations Center to facilitate clinical research and trials consistent with hospital policies and research integrity standards.
- Outreach and Advancement: partner with the Institutional Advancement team on philanthropy, marketing, and outreach efforts.

Qualifications
Master of Business Administration and 7 to 10 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. At least 10 years of experience is strongly preferred. Budgeting and accounting experience, as well as experience managing a clinical enterprise, are also required. Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.
