Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty, the incumbent will lead the development, implementation, and oversight of standardized policies, procedures, and documentation related to the recruiting and employment of faculty and non-faculty academic staff across Weill Cornell Medicine.

Collaborating with WCM and Ithaca campus leadership, the Executive Director is the operational lead responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of both the Faculty Affairs team and the Academic Compensation team, and will be responsible for the management, oversight and implementation of HR services, programs, processes and policies applicable to academic staff, with a primary focus on clinical faculty.

Job Responsibilities

  • Interacts with the Chairs and departmental leadership individually and through the suite of faculty services to ensure collaboration and effective communication across missions.
  • Oversees a team who manage the following for academic staff: appointment & promotion, tenure, termination, retirement, emeritus appointment, appointment to endowed position, change in status, leaves of absence and sabbaticals, and annual faculty reviews.
  • Recommend strategy, continually advance and provide leadership and oversight to academic compensation programs that align with business strategy.
  • Serve as the institutional leader for faculty recruiting, credentialing and re-credentialing, and academic HR policy development and oversight.
  • Secure, accurate faculty credentialing & background-check records, including primary-source verification, maintained through the shared platform integrated with NYP's medical staff credentialing system & the WCM PO's delegated credentialing process.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive change management strategies, including readiness assessments, and training initiatives, to ensure all team members are fully informed and equipped in using Interfolio Faculty Information systems and workflows.
  • Oversees all Academic Policies and the upkeep of the Academic Staff Handbook.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, thought leader and trusted advisor to internal and external stakeholders on issues pertaining to Total Rewards, strategy/change management, analytics, promotion & tenure management and Academic operations.
  • Liaise with NYP, the WCM Physician Organization managed care and government payer teams, and other external credentialing partners to ensure institutional needs are met and risks are effectively managed.
  • Stays current on credentialing matters impacting WCM and the WCM-NYP academic health system, in coordination with the WCM Physician Organization managed care and government payer teams.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master's Degree in Health Administration, Public Policy, Higher Education, Human Capital Management, or related field preferred

Experience

  • 10 years of relevant experience; 5 years progressive leadership experience in clinical staff services, including clinical staff credentialing, academic HR, onboarding, faculty affairs, academic hiring transactions, faculty appointments and tenure, change management and/or process improvement, and supervisory experience. Required.
  • Strong understanding of health care industry, regulatory compliance requirements for providers and relevant performance improvement tactics.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams to successfully implement large-scale process improvements.
  • Expertise with salary survey participation, market analysis, job evaluation, and base and variable pay compensation plan design and administration.
  • Extensive experience in using the full suite of Interfolio Faculty Information System products or equivalent.
  • Experience with software systems and data management tools.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of compensation practices and trends.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements related to clinical faculty credentialing (e.g., Joint Commission, ACGME, state licensing boards).
  • Strong proficiency in credentialing protocols, including processes for Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), State Medicaid, and third-party.
  • Strong proficiency and/or understanding of project management including executing technical and operational project activities with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Advanced analytical, critical thinking, and computational/statistical skills.
  • Proficient in the following: Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

Salary Range

$280,000.00 - $305,000.00
*As required under NYC Human Rights Law Int 1208-2018 - Salary range for this role when Hired for NYC Offices
